Thank you for this great post. Most of us know someone, often a relative, who have suffered something similar to Terri's condition. With therapy and good care, most have lived productive lives. I have one uncle who improves daily after his serious stroke, and is showing signs of bringing his left side into play along with his right side. For months, he could not speak, and someone might have mistaken him for being "vegetative."

And I had another uncle who was in a coma for good while. When he emerged, he could barely speak, and couldn't swallow. That continued until his death, years later, from something else entirely (a fall). Until that time, he gardened, puttered around in his woodshop, and delighted us with funny stories and tales of years gone by.

But it should be noted that after his 2nd week of being in a coma, it was suggested that we make arrangements to "pull the plug"--he was receiving help with breathing, etc. The family (especially my aunt!) was horrified, and flatly refused--and sure enough, he came out of it.

How can anyone who has experienced this in their own lives come out and say, "Let the woman die" about Terri? How about, "Give her a chance to live"???

I have simply not followed this story at all.. Yesterday was the first time i read in depth about it... I am no doctor but the videos i saw on http://terrisfight.org/ CLEARLY SHOWED A WOMAN WHO WAS AWARE OF WHAT WAS GOING ON. Especially this "swab" video.. they stuck a swab in her mouth she tried to bite it lol.. and it aggravated her as they slid it across her lips....... I pray THESE VIDEOS ARE VIEWED NATIONWIDE.. iT shows the truth

As much as I hated it in the Elian Gonzalez mess, I would love to see AG Gonzalez go "Janet" and pull her out of there.

Well, then Mister First, get a bunch of men of arms together and go and rescue her right now! If you haveto kill those who would keep her starving there -- do so!

"Most murderers do try to cover their tracks..."

True, but most murderers aren't aided and abetted by a sitting Judge.

Wonder if Michael is the bastard son of Judge Greer?

It's time to compare their DNA.

While it may not be possible to know the full extent of her diagnosis from a video tape, it is possible to rule out persistent vegetative state.

Right. But only if the judge who is doing the ruling out can SEE the freaking tape!

That judge is a evil evil man. I don't think Michael could get away with this without that judge's help. They should both be behind bars. IMHO

It's not like he had to check her vital signs on a video tape. He just viewed the tape of her actions, facial expressions and her responses to people and events around her-thus recognizing the obvious-SHE IS NOT IN A VEGITATIVE STATE.

I apologize for the shouting.

I have a close friend whose elderly mother was rendered quadriplegic as a result of complications of a burst aortic aneurysm (not an uncommon complication). Apart from being unable to move her limbs, she had good cognitive function and could whisper her requests. Blessedly, she said she was experiencing no pain.

After about ten days in the ICU the attending physicians gathered the family together and told them it was hopeless, she would never recover. Fine, the family said, but what are you getting at? Are you saying death is imminent? A week? A month" Two years? The physicians sighed and shrugged their shoulders but reminded the family the mother was taking up valuable bed space. The family said they wanted to take a few days to a week to decide what their options were.

Just a few days later the family arrived early one morning to find the mother in what appeared to be a deep coma, completely unresponsive. Her tongue was hanging out of her mouth and her eyes were sunk deep into dark hollows. She was breathing slow and erratic, like a death rattle. Alarmed the family demanded to know what had happened. The attending physician said she had been given a sedative and a little bit of painkiller.

In fact, she had not been given a "little bit" of painkiller. She had been given enough morphine to bring her to the point of death. It took her five days to wake up and when she did, the family immediately moved her to a hospice where they tenderly cared for her for another four weeks until she passed away. Not once had she ever complained to the family of being in pain.

In the family's mind there was and is no doubt at all that the attending health care providers tried to euthanize the mother. I tend to agree with them. I've spoken to enough doctors and nurses off the record to suspect that this happens routinely in our hospitals. They just want to regularize it now.

No DNA test required, their relationship is obvious.

Democrats were quick to note that Frist was getting rave reviews from conservative activists who will play a major role in the 2008 presidential primaries he is weighing.

I am so sick of political hacks framing the argument on every damn issue in terms of who does or doesn't benefit politically. I'm so sick of it I could PUKE!

It's important that we let our legislatures know TODAY that we are expecting them to get their act together and work out their differences between the House and the Senate and pass into Law immediately the Bill that will not only save Terri but will also stop this horrendous tide of euthanasia that is going to sweep our country if they don't stop their partisan monkeying around and bowing to this arrogant Judge Greer and all his cronies.
Use this link to contact your Senators and Representatives; it's VERY easy to do:

http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=7260151

And once you send it to them, use the form to send that page too everyone you can think of that will also contact their legislatures.

THEN write to President Bush at president@whitehouse.gov and urge him to call an emergency session of Congress this weekend to get this Bill voted on and passed into Law.

And MOST OF ALL, let's pray fervently like we've never prayed before.

There's way too much at stake here to sit on our hands and just let this all happen.

Now this may seem like a dumb question, but why can't protective services just simply step in and take custody of this woman

'Cuz Big Bad Greer Sez They Can't. And he is the be all-end all of law. No one else matters. He owns her body, no one else. Just ask him.

Note that there is stone cold silence from Democrats.

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember Gacy died of a heart attack in prison...or was that Richard Speck?

He didn't diagnose anything.

He made the comment that she seems to respond to visual stimuli.

Read it again.

If nothing else, the hateful, angry, 'I answer to no one' expression in the eyes is nearly identical.
