The Palestinian Authority's decision to purchase more than 100 new vehicles for all members of the Palestinian Legislative Council and the new cabinet has drawn sharp criticism from some Palestinians.
The PA's 24 ministers will each receive a German Audi A-6 car, which costs $76,000. The 86 lawmakers will be given the cheaper version of Audi, the A-4, which costs an estimated $45,000.
Palestinian columnist Yahya Rabah on Thursday attacked the decision to buy the expensive vehicles at a time when the PA is cutting expenditure in many fields, and can't pay police salaries.
"First, I would like to point out that there are no ministers, legislators and leaders in the world without cars," Rabah said. "But everything is relative. The PA is hardly able to pay the civil servants or cover running expenses, members of the security forces are struggling to get a 20 percent rise in their wages, and we still haven't solved the problem of unemployment."
Rabah pointed out that thousands of hungry unemployed laborers attacked the offices of the PLC in Gaza City last Saturday to protest against the PA's failure to solve their plight.
"What will happen when these workers see the new cars parked outside the Palestinian Legislative Council offices?" he asked.
"How will we explain the decision to pay only $1,500 to the families whose houses have been demolished or blown up?"
PING!
Have the Palis caught on yet.
(members of the security forces are struggling to get a 20 percent rise in their wages)
That's some raise. I wish I was struggling to get that kind of raise in my job!
Is that with the 4.2 liter 335 hp V-8?
So those are the only 2 choices? Spend the money on corrupt excess or on terrorists who got punished? There must be Palestinians who are genuinely deserving.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, but even more so in Arab societies.
The image we get in the US from the Palestinian sypathetic MSM is one of refugee camps and bombed out buildings lining rubble strewn streets.
I wonder how they get the Audis around all that?
Well, at least the cars are not Maybachs or Rolls'es. Thus, they are indeed moderate in their corruption, at least relatively moderate.
Nothing new there...
Nice.
Morticians.
Is this our tax money? Why do they deserve any government supplied vehicle? They learn fast, don't they?
(Inspired by the Harper's Index)
Palestinian Authority Ministers to receive gratis $76,000 Audi - 26
Palestinian Authority Legislators to receive gratis $45,000 car - 86
American nominees for President of World Bank reluctantly received by Europeans - 1
Well, there goes $5.7 million of our tax dollars. This is disgusting!
That was very kind of Suha to open up a small bit of Arafart's bank account for a bit of the skim that he amassed for the past twenty years.
Maybe she'll spring for a new pile of rocks to throw at Jews for the masses!
It's a Zionist plot!
