Ehrlich Alleges 'Blackmail' By Former State Employee (Possible identity of MD4Bush Revealed?)
Washington Post ^ | 03/25/05 | Matthew Mosk

Posted on 03/24/2005 8:22:46 PM PST by conservative in nyc

Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. accused a former state employee yesterday of trying to "blackmail" him. The woman involved said she was trying to protect herself against a retaliatory "whisper campaign" by the administration that could cost her a job.

And after a winter of partisanship and allegations of political dirty tricks, the tension ratcheted up another level when Ehrlich(R) stood in front of the State House and charged that there was a campaign at work to make his administration look bad.

"We really want to know about any political orchestration" by Democrats, Ehrlich told reporters.

Yesterday [Gov. Ehrlich] suggested that Steffen had been set up and asked reporters to find out how that happened.

As evidence, he released an e-mail from Michelle Lane, a registered nurse who held mid-level posts on Ehrlich's transition team and in his administration before being fired last summer. In the Feb. 13 e-mail, Lane accused the governor's aides of trying to smear her, and she threatened to distribute damaging correspondence she received from Steffen if Ehrlich's staff did not leave her alone. She included one sample, in which Steffen describes efforts to "start cleaning house" at a state agency.

Ehrlich told reporters, "Getting a blackmail e-mail . . . that was certainly interesting."

--Snip--

The exchanges Lane had with Steffen appear to be the fodder for the threat she made last month in the e-mail to the governor's top aides.

"As a result of your whisper campaign (assassination politics) which is outrageous and completely false, I am releasing four emails . . . " she wrote. "Every time I hear about Ehrlich people engaging in this whisper campaign about me, I will release information. These emails are merely the tip of the iceberg."

Very, very interesting. How many FReepmails were released by MD4Bush?

The whole article is worth a read. Is Ms. Lane MD4Bush?

Your question suggests the answer to itself.

Short summary:

Mr. Steffen is a Freeper, NCPAC. He posted a comment on a thread about rumors that Baltimore's Mayor O'Malley (D) had an affair with a Baltimore TV anchor who moved to New York. MD4Bush had a damaging FReepmail conversations with NCPAC, which were released on Free Republic around the same time the Washington Post first blamed Steffen and Free Republic for spreading the O'Malley rumors.

Free Republic wasn't the first or only place these rumors were spread, but the Baltimore Sun (and to a lesser extent, the Washington Post) have been blaming NCPAC and Free Republic for spreading them when, as best we can tell, all he did was comment on the rumors.

Not real sure but I think the WP is one of those we can't post the whole article. But maybe it is the WT.

"Is Ms. Lane MD4Bush?"

I really have no idea, but the first time I saw and read MD4Bush's postings my intuition was the person was female.

Very, very interesting. Now, MD4Bush claimed to be a man. But that means absolutely nothing. I hope we get to find out who "it" is!

Is the Baltimore Sun an FR member? If not, it's invading our personal space. Do we have to have some kind of kinky sex around here to get some privacy? ;)

Not many people pay that much attention to whiny politicians anyway, especially the whiny Democrats. They're always bitching about something. It gets old after a while.
I never heard a word about it, even though I was actually checking in looking for stuff!

There were 5 FReepmails dumped by MD4Bush in this thread, one more than Ms. Lane threatened to leak.

I don't think this is MD4Bush. We can probably rule out about half of the general population and this lady is one. Course, I would have no idea if they were working in concert. Not saying or even hinting they were, just have no idea. Some reporter mentioned in an article a few weeks ago that certain emails were circulated from mddems.org. Doubt the investigation can go there, but that'd probably be a good place to start if they could. I think it should be obvious to all that MD4Bush was a Democrat politcial operative. A dirty tricks communications specialist so to speak.
