JANISZEWSKI Took 100G in bribes. Photo: AP
Robert Janiszewski, New Jersey chairman for Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign, who turned government informant after being confronted with his own misdeeds, was sentenced yesterday to 41 months in prison for taking bribes.
The former Hudson County Executive was also ordered to pay a $40,000 fine by U.S. District Judge Joel Pisano.
Janiszewski, whose influence once extended far beyond his Hudson County base, addressed the judge, apologizing and taking responsibility for his actions.
But the judge, in an extraordinary departure from usual practice, denied a leniency motion by prosecutors, who said Janiszewski provided substantial cooperation helping convict other politicians despite threats to his life.
"To say that the citizens of New Jersey have become the laughingstock because of widespread corruption in politics is an understate- ment," Pisano said. "I conclude that the mitigating factors in this case are swept away by the seriousness of the matter."
Janiszewski........ has been working as a construction worker in New York.
He pleaded guilty in 2002, admitting he took more than $100,000 in bribes during his 131/2 years as Hudson County's top elected official.
Janiszewski resigned in September 2001. Unknown to the public, however, was that he had been nabbed taking a bribe at a convention in 1999 and started cooperating with federal investigators a year later, secretly recording conver sations with businessmen and politicians.
Janiszewski, 59, also served as county Democratic chairman. He represented the county in the state Assembly from 1978-84, where he was chairman of the Appropriations Committee.
He has been in hiding since quitting office, but is not in the witness protection program....... AP

Business as usual in the political mafia.
How many Clinton Cronnies does this make now? [not counting Bruger]
Working up to nail Hillary in, say, 2007?
Just when I thought there were no good guys left on the bench in the U.S. courts, along comes this? Good for him. It's about time we have some justice from the bench instead of activism.
> Working up to nail Hillary...
They're not going to nail anybody when, after this guy sings, he is still fined and handed 3 1/2 years. "But the judge, in an extraordinary departure from usual practice, denied a leniency motion by prosecutors, who said Janiszewski provided substantial cooperation helping convict other politicians despite threats to his life." The judge clearly does not want other crooked pols to cooperate.
That's a really interesting observation, and probably spot-on.
Dang.
Crooked Polska Pingski.
No chernina for him.
Good point. I suppose I should withhold my earlier praise.
Jail sentence couldn'ta happened to a better guy...........Clinton's onetime campaign manager.
I believe they have already nailed some of the people with whom this Dumbocrat did dirty business.
Justice...finally. My appetite is whetted...MUD

Let me guess, is this judge a klinton appointee?
Federal Judicial Service: Joel Pisano
U. S. District Court, District of New Jersey
Nominated by William J. Clinton on September 22, 1999
What wasn't corrupt about Bill Clinton?
A Clinton campaign chairman from New Jersey involved in political corruption?--I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked! :-)
Thanks for the ping, Liz!
