Are you speaking of the government or the people? I generally make no apologies for the government - as people who know me know all too well. But I do know and deal with a lot of folks from Mainland China, and I just don't get the impression that we are dealing with an inherently racist or expansionist culture. It is, however, a very proud culture but I wouldn't confuse that with racism. And sadly the Marxist government has allowed an incredible amount of corruption to seep into the fabric of the society. But racist? I certainly don't see a preoccupation with it among people I've run into. And unlike Germany and Japan (and other places), there doesn't seem to be this ugly genie that could pop out of the bottle anytime. Please enlighten me.

Some of the racist remarks on the Chinese internet could be from:

deranged people, ie neurotics "letting off steam" eg people under heavy stress, eg students before exams etc

It is also very possible that Taiwanese agents planted these terrible racist attacks on Condi Rice to provoke US-China tensions

There is nothing better for Taiwanese Independent forces than to see a US-China war

The official statement from the Official Commie newspaper on Condi Rice's visit was very very upbeat and positive

Peoples DAily called her visit " a breath of fresh/warm air in a cold Beijing" The Commie news-paper also praised her for describing US-China relation as "strategic cooperation" or something like that

Also lots of photo opportunity with cute young Chinese children (girls) on a public ice-skating rink in Beijing
