Yikes!!!!! This is from The Village Voice? Never thought I'd see the day.
I would submit the Village Voice is worried that those with AIDS will be assumed to be "inconvenient" and their lives will not pass the Whitmore Test of worthiness to continue living. Imagine if the HIV positive crowd of the Village Voice was subject to mandatory duty to die.
Thanks to Judge Greer and Mr. Felos's amazing power of "soul speaking", they have very much to be concerned about.
Small problem with Frist's comments.. with the metal probes in her head, an otherwise benign MRI/CAT scan would kill her.
amazed at village voice on this though.
Nat Hentoff is a ferocious libertarian who is completely unafraid of the liberals and socialists. I am not surprised in the slightest.
I'm having an identity crisis today. First I find myself on the same side as Jesse Hi-Jackson and now the Village Voice ... who's next Ward Churchill ... naah
It's not from the "Village Voice." This is an opinion column by Nat Hentoff, an old-guard liberal who is reliably and consistently pro-life and pro Bill of Rights. I doubt seriously this even remotely reflects the editorial opinion of the Village Voice or the beliefs of most of their staff or readers.
Honorable, reasonable members of the left like Hentoff are an endangered species. The hateful 60s radicals have silenced most of them.
Nat Hentoff is a strong pro-life voice and always has been, though he is liberal on many issues. He is a champion of human rights, and it means a lot when he browbeats the ACLU because they are so often in agreement on things.
Is this the same Nat Hentoff who use to write articles about Bob Dylan in the 60s? I believe he also wrote the liner notes to a lot of Dylan's albums.
well yes...but from Nat Hentoff...a civil libertarian. You won't see this written by anybody else there. He's also written about Mugabe's murders in Zimbabwe as well.
You haven't paid attention. Hentoff, who is a fixture at the Village Voice is just about the only (and by far the most notable and loudest) anti-abortion voice on the left.
And after this sorry affair, he will be one of the few leftists who will still be able to credibly claim to speak on behalf of the downtrodden and those who have no voice (the only basis on which the left traditionally claimed moral superiority--since statism per se is amoral).
It's Nat Hentoff. He is consistently pro-life!
Yes, Nat Hentoff is a liberal. Nat Hentoff is also pro-life. About 10 years ago a small upstate New York newspaper published a pro-life editorial. The Clintonista DOJ went after the newspaper, invoking RICO statutes. Hentoff publically sided with the newspaper on First Amendment grounds.
Hentoff has been getting a lot of flak from some of the other lefties when he strays from the plantation. Then again, I don't think he cares.
It's strange, but the Village Voice seems to have a man of priciple writing for them. He's not a conservative, but like Johnathan Turley, a person who cares about "that which is just". It's kinda cool. With thoughts like the following, he could easily become a conservative:
It would be useless, but nonetheless, I would like to inform George Felos that, as Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas said: "The history of liberty is the history of due process"fundamental fairness.
