Mexico invited to G-8 summit

MEXICO CITY — This nation said Monday it has been invited to attend the G-8 summit of industrialized nations to be held in Scotland in July, along with Brazil, China, India and South Africa.

The G-8 includes the United States, Britain, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, Russia and Japan, which together account for the lion's share of the world's economic output.

The summit is expected to focus on issues such as climate change, trade and financing for development.

Woman was raped,tortured, stabbed

MONTERREY, Mexico — A woman whose body was found in an irrigation ditch in the border city of Ciudad Juárez had been raped, tortured and stabbed to death, authorities confirmed Monday.

Rocio Marin, 19, had been stabbed more than 15 times in the back, stomach and neck, said Claudia Banuelos, a spokeswoman for state investigators in Chihuahua state, where Ciudad Juárez is located.

Also Monday, Chihuahua state investigator Victor Tenorio Enriquez said prosecutors are investigating the death last week of a suspect in another woman's murder.

Police determined that David Osuna Soto, 42, died of a blow to the stomach that caused his internal organs to rupture at a state prison in Ciudad Juárez. Prosecutors are investigating the possible involvement of prison employees in the case.

Spring Break death blamed on drugs

CANCUN, Mexico — A student on Spring Break in this Caribbean resort city died of a heart attack following a drug overdose, police said Monday.

Eric T. Horn, 21, of Fremont, Ohio, died at a hospital last week after a friend tried unsuccessfully to revive him in their hotel, said Luis Alfonso Chi Paredes, deputy attorney general.

There was no information about the drug involved.

Chimp brawl shuts Argentine zoo

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — A fight among chimpanzees prompted the evacuation of a zoo in La Plata when officials feared the primates would also attack visitors.

The incident occurred Sunday, when a male and two female chimps destroyed a barrier separating chimps and then ganged up on the oldest male, injuring him badly as stunned spectators looked on.

The growth of this G-8 circus is becoming a mini U.N. It balloons more and every year. As a taxpayer, how much of my tax money is supporting this bread and circus? I have never seen $ figures, especially when this circus comes to town (the United States).
