"And somebody needs to take a closer look at that Muslim who shot Pope John Paul II."
Just today it is on yahoo - document trail KGB - Stasi - Bulgarians - turkish assassin. While the idea is inviting, not every case of diarrhea or acid reflux is atrributable to TROP(TM). One needs to think clearer than farrakhanoids.

Ockhams Razor is in full force and effect here:

Ockham's razor also Occam's razor – ("Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate" or "plurality should not be posited without necessity.") a rule in science and philosophy stating that entities should not be multiplied needlessly. This rule is interpreted to mean that the simplest of two or more competing theories is preferable and that an explanation for unknown phenomena should first be attempted in terms of what is already known. Also called law of parsimony.

The KGB may well have been the hidded hand which engineered the attempted assassination of the pope, but what motivated the assassin — what did the KGB offer him as an inducement to do it?

It is not unreasonable to suspect that TROP™ was involved in the mix somewhere.
