The reason behind this law is that states like Florida are constantly in search of additional means to kill off elderly people who are perceived to be a huge burden on society.
This is one reason why I've never been too concerned about "saving" Social Security and Medicare. I have enough faith in our nihilistic, pragmatic culture to realize that we will kill off our elderly long before we let them "destroy" our cherished nanny-state institutions.

I don't share your negative view of our government. Besides, if what you say is true, I certainly am not going to ever move to Florida or any of those states that seem to be popular retirement states. I live in Virginia and I don't see that kind of thing going on here. We are very conservative here.
