North Carolina State is the home of the Wolfpack, but right now, a pirate is the talk on campus.

Good for him - I heartily approve of any effort to throw sand in the gears of those ridiculous overglorified popularity contests.

Exactly right! Bully for him.

"Voting for someone who wants to rid the campus of scurvy dogs is not really an effective way of having student government"

I think getting rid of 'scurvy dogs' is a laudable goal.
Hell, we need to make a couple hundred scurvy dogs in Washington walk the plank!

Ahhhhh, I remember fondly the days of tooling around campus and having a general good time. Today 30 years ago I would have been reading the Techinashit about a giant pigeon attacking Poe Hall, having mistaken it for a Hartz Mountain Bird Seed treat.

Aw, c'mon--they're working night and day to end racism and promote diversity!

LOL! Speaking of that particular student paper:

The Technician: WKNC broadcasts live candidate debate

The Senate Chamber in Witherspoon Student Center set the stage for a heated Student Government debate, broadcasted on the Brad Dixon Radio Program on WKNC last night.

The live broadcast featured candidates squaring off over issues that have been hotly debated throughout the past school year.

Students running on the three major tickets were seated side-by-side, with the two independent candidates -- Matthew Waligora (student body treasurer) and The Pirate Captain (student body president) -- seated at the end of the table.

The Pirate Captain, whose real identity Technician learned late last night is junior in mechanical engineering William Piavis, appeared in full-costume, complete with a green parrot on his shoulder.

I think getting rid of 'scurvy dogs' is a laudable goal.

Also, another popular plank: double rations of rum on Fridays.

"Voting for someone who wants to rid the campus of scurvy dogs is not really an effective way of having student government," sophomore Christopher Sanchez said.

Sounds suspiciously like, "watery tarts, distributing swords, is no basis for a form of government."

We had the Unknown Candidate run for student president at Tennessee Tech. Even had a student ID with a picture of him with the paper bag on his head.

He won, but the admin overturned the election.
