Wonderful pics! I'm not Catholic- so cannot understand what my Catholic friends are feeling today but I pray for your pope and for you all.

I remember when he came to NYC in 1980 (79?) - I lived on 1st Ave and went downstairs to watch as his motorcade drove by. There were thousands of us waving and cheering him. I was truly moved by seeing this remarkable man - we all knew we were in the presence of greatness.

May he go home in peace..

I've been to one of those places pictured! The fifth picture from the bottom, above the picture of the hands holding the Rosary, is the Holy Ghost Chapel at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in England, which I visited in September 2004.

These pictures are extraordinary, they certainly capture the feelings of the people, myself included, thank you for posting. God Bless John Paul.

Thank you.

I was in Rome in 2001. It brings back wonderful memories of my too short visit to the Vatican and St. Peter's.

I didn't get to see Pope John Paul II while there, but his presence was obvious. He is God's man for God's time.

And his physical decline and the care he is receiving is in such sharp contrast to Terri Schindler-Schiavo's -- it's as if God is showing the world how HE wants people cared for when they are unable to care for themselves.

Thanks for the pictures. I'm not Catholic and have no personal experiences with this man, but seeing these pictures helps me to understand the depth of emotion and his impact.
