Terri Schiavo Cremated Amid Family Feud

Saturday, April 02, 2005

TAMPA, Fla.  Terri Schiavo's body was cremated Saturday as disagreements continued between her husband and her parents, who were unable to have their own independent expert observe her autopsy.

The cremation was carried out according to a court order issued Tuesday establishing that Michael Schiavo () had the right to make such decisions, said his lawyer, George Felos. He said plans for burying her ashes in Pennsylvania, where she grew up, had not yet been completed.

Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had wanted to bury their daughter in Pinellas County so they could visit her grave.

Terri Schiavo, 41, died Thursday after the removal of the feeding tube that had kept her alive since 1990, when she suffered brain damage that court-appointed doctors determined had placed her in a persistent vegetative state (). Her parents had fought in court to keep her alive, disputing the doctors' opinions and saying there was hope of improvement.

I just heard this on FNC in the last few minutes. This is sure a day for many tears.

The sad part is what we did to her. However, she is in a much better place I'm sure. The murderers may have gotten what they wanted, but she's better off now than they'll ever be, I'm sure. (not to pass judgement on anyone!)

This is known as destroying evidence.

What the heck is wrong with Florida?

Broken bones and brain scan evidence ---- G O N E

Or can a scientist detect such things from the ashes, providing they don't get flushed?

In some ways I think I'm beyond judging anyone for what happened to Terri. At this point I have to be reconciled to the fact that those truly responsible will answer for it somewhere, sometime. I'm a bad enough person to want to see it however.

What about the autopsy? They will find out from that won't they?

That guy [Felos] is downright CREEPY!I can't stand to see him and immediately switch if he come on. Very, very scary and infuriating at the same time.

"What the heck is wrong with Florida?"

I've wondered that more and more. It seems there's only dreadful news coming out of Florida lately. Natural disasters and gawd-awful people.

I'm sure Michael and at least 3 of his relatives clearly remember Terri saying that if she was ever systematically starved to death, she'd want to be cremated within 48 hours and to have her ashes hidden from her parents for eternity.

Nice and neat. That was fast.

The wheels of Justice turn slowly, but the wheels of corruption have reached warp speed!

The only solace we have now is in the fact that, although we failed Terri, God will not.

"I'm a bad enough person to want to see it however."

I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. To see appropriate and (If the facts support) deserved punishment meted out is reassuring to the functioning of a lawful Society. IMO To permit what is alleged here to go uninvestigated and, perhaps, unpunished would be an affront to such a Society.
