John Paul II: A Life Consecrated to Mankind (Editorial from Puerto Rico)
El Vocero de Puerto Rico (Spanish-language editorial) ^ | April 2, 2005 | Editorial

Posted on 04/04/2005 9:40:09 AM PDT by Ebenezer

(English-language translation)

John Paul II, the Pope who brought the 20th century to a close and began the 21st century, performed a 26-year mission that will be remembered by the contemporary world and that will go down in the annals of history, not only on account of his work as leader of the Catholic Church and her millions of members throughout all of the world's continents, but also for having brandished a spiritual lance that began to break apart the atheist communist world represented by what was the Soviet Union and the number of countries in Eastern Europe that lived for close to half a century under the enslaving boot of the Soviet Union.

This humble Pole, who was born in the city of Krakow (sic) on May 20, 1920 and who has dedicated all of his life to serve the Church as one of the greatest institutions whose origins go back to the time when the Roman Empire was the world's absolute power 20 centuries ago, has also dedicated himself to planting the seed of love among all in the Catholic world, in addition to making the extraordinary effort to bring the different Christian faiths together, as well as the followers of the Koran and the Torah.

Without a doubt, John Paul II is a brave man who has had the strength to recognize the errors committed by the Catholic Church throughout the years and to ask forgiveness for those cases that warranted it.

John Paul II was a man who, until his life was endangered by an assassin paid by the communist world, distinguished himself by his athletic skills and recognized the importance of bringing Christian teachings to the youth of all the continents of this contemporary world we live in, where freedom and overcoming temptations pose a challenge to all generations who will lead the accidental (sic) world we all know. Thus he went on pilgrimage throughout all continents, planting the seed of love and repeating Jesus Christ's words: "The truth will make you free."

There is an odd combination of present and past tense in this editorial when describing the late Pope, so I don't know if the piece was written when he was near death or right after he died. There is also the inaccurate statement that His Holiness was born in Krakow, when, in reality, it was Wadowice. Finally, the editorial makes reference to the "accidental" world; most likely, the editor was referring to the occidental or "Western" world.

Other than the above, El Vocero has written a short but fitting tribute to a great religious and, in his own right, world leader. Compare the seriousness and integrity of a John Paul II to the political "leaders" we have to deal with in the secular world. Recquiescat in pace.

.

This from someone who walked thru the Valley of Death that was Vietnam's IA DRANG Valley of Mid-November 1965:

Have no Fear,

for you are very dearly LOVED,

as you are and...

as you are not.

I love you entirely,

GOD loves you perfectly.

And Since...

...things may not be what they appear to be in this world, for...

...there are things in life you can see with your eyes and...

...in life there are things you see with your Heart

And Since...

...LOVE is the Only Reality

And Since...

...it is in your Loving and

...being Loved in return,

...in your Heart,

...that you really do live on FOREVER...

...you cannot miss,

with LOVE.

Praise GOD that...

LOVE is the Only Reality and that...

GOD is LOVE

Just ask...

Pope JOHN PAUL the GREAT -&- our blessed Little TERRI SCHIAVO,

...who are together again for the 1st time,

ETERNALLY

I agree, dedicated, not consecrated.

Amen.

May the Holy Father rest in peace.

"the extraordinary effort to bring the different Christian faiths together, as well as the followers of the Koran and the Torah."

I believe this is the primary legacy that JPll has left the world: his extraordinary effort to promote universalism and to encourage all the religions off the world to unite together in solidarity for world peace.

Much of what I share in my previous "Have no Fear" post I first shared from what I had seen in my life on up to 1978, just before Pope JOHN the Great was named head of the Catholic Church and he publically proclaimed stirring words of his own:

"Be not Afraid"

GOD is GOOD.

A ping for your ping lists: I think Ronnie is saying that what he learned in his "Have no Fear" post to this thread was confirmed and reinforced by the Pope's first words right after being elected. From across a score of years, they now hold meaning for me, too. My word for the week has been eucatastrophe. Some of you will know what it means to Tolkien fans. Spirituality can find us in unusual ways.
