Should freedom of speech extend to anti-semitism ?
It should extend to being critical of any religion imo, should one choose to. But hatred ?
Foxman pissed too hard on the evangelical Christians and destroyed his organization's once very strong influence.
I've lived in three out of the four states listed here (and in the case of Florida, lived in a predominantly Jewish nabe for a time), and can tell you that the closest thing to anti-semitism that I hear among my fellow gentiles is about "the rude Jewish ladies at Loehmann's." I can't for the life of me remember any gentile folks who had swastika's in their basements or belonged to the National Alliance.
Anti-semitism these days is confined to Muslims and the American Splendor rejects who live at home with their parents and blame others for their failings.
I would guess that 95% of the people who have
hated Jews all their life can't tell you why.
These bozos got their hatred from their bozo ancestors.
I saw Foxman on C-span this morning (missed part of it) and he brought up "The Passion of the Christ"---he said he held no hard feelings for Mel Gibson, but still feels that the movie added to the anti-semitism...
I am not Jewish, so I can't know, but just from what I have seen and read, I thought it was more the other way---that Christians came out of the movie with more of an idea of what happened and why---
I could be wrong, and anyone here on FR, feel free to let me know how I have misread it...ok?
You didn't go to the anti-war rallies.
Anti-semetism is not coming from just some neo-nazis and muslims, but from college age liberals and their professors.
At anti-war rallies, it typical to burn both an American flag and an Israeli flag, some of the most openly vicious displays of anti-semtism, have come in massive gatherings of left wing activists.
Columbia, which has a serious hatred of jews, had teachers make horrific statements, and after an investigation, those professors, who addmitted all, were cleared.
But the Abe Foxmans and the David Dukes of this world have their own paranoias and agendas.
Bump to your post #10. There's a lot of will ignorance going on, and hopefully common sense will finally kick in before it's too late.
You guys are right about where the anti-semitism seems to come from---
I would add politicians, big time---I have heard more anti-semitism on the Senate floor than I can believe---Fritz Hollings, Byrd, some of the others ---have come right out and said that the only reason we went into Iraq was to save the Jews of Israel---
And of course they have the "new" word "neocon" to include anyone that is Pro-Israeli or pro-Jewish and accuses them of being sneaky and liars---
I would say the Universitys and Washington (from what I read and see) are the worst purveyors, but like you said xJones, Foxman doesn't help the cause--
"A Christian anti-semite should be the prime example of an oxymoron."
Indeed.
- The Saviour was a jew and his father was a jew. Your God.
- He had no father, says Martin. That'll do now. Drive ahead.
- Whose God? says the citizen.
- Well, his uncle was a jew, says he. Your God was a jew. Christ was a jew like me.
Gob, the citizen made a plunge back into the shop.
- By Jesus, says he, I'Il brain that bloody jewman for using the holy name. By Jesus, I'll crucify him so I will.
James Joyce: Ulysses
Anyone remember a member of the Dinkins admin in NYC refering to the Crown Heights rioting as 'kids letting off some steam,' or something like that.
Awful.
Thanks, xJones. The University I went to, NYU was founded by a group of Jewish men of worth. These men were denied every common dignity in the NYC of that time and not allowed to attend the prestigious Colleges like Columbia. They created this institution of higher learning and opened its doors to everyone. Though I am not Jewish, I am very proud to have attended a University with such a History. P.S. Based on what has been coming out of Columbia these day, perhaps very little has changed. The powers that be have evolved from over zealous Religious Christian bigots to Communist Bigots.
Jesus wasn't just born Jewish. He lived, died, and lived again as a Jew.
He never considered himself as anything else.
(Besides, if he was Christian, he'd have worshipped himself.)
:-)
al Haaretz publishing an ADL press release as news?...that is surprising. Well, I'm sure the Federation will come down hard on them...
The ADL has done more to generate anti-Semitism than the NA and all others groups combined could ever hope to accomplish. And why not, they have raised millions for their favorite socialist causes, Klinton, gun-banning, criminalizing patriot groups, marginalizing and dismissing thoughts to the right of marx and lenin.
Like the saying goes, there's no business like shoah business.
Right Abe? Right Marc?
Yes. It must, because otherwise you have groups, attorneys, and politicians defining what is "hate speech" and therefore subject to muzzling. Then there goes talk radio, Fox news, the RNC, the NRA, GOAL, and anything else they want silenced... (and vice versa).
