I would have to wonder why these units were not capable of 110v operation. Plenty of that kind of power around an airport.

You've obviously never looked for a place to plug in your laptop in a departure waiting area. They can generally be found, but "plenty" is a gross overstatement, based on my experience at a number of airports.
