Conference to Address Issues at Heart of Terri Schiavo Case (Ap 7 and 9 in D.C.)

Rick Scarborough, temporary chairman of the Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration (organizer of the conference Confronting The Judicial War On Faith – April 7-8 in Washington, DC) offered his heartfelt thanks to Congress and President Bush for passing emergency legislation to save the life of Terri Schiavo.

"Thank God we have a Congress and president who care enough about a life imperiled to intervene in this case," Scarborough commented.

"Like the 1960s, when state courts ignored clear-cut violations of civil rights, federal intervention is necessary. The legislation that passed in the early hours of this morning will facilitate that."

Scarborough added, "Our upcoming conference on combating judicial tyranny (Confronting The Judicial War On Faith) could not be more timely or more necessary. It was an activist Florida judge who, in effect, passed a death sentence on Terri Schiavo."

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (who was instrumental in moving the Schiavo legislation through Congress) will be a keynote speaker at Confronting The Judicial War On Faith.

David C. Gibbs of the Christian Law Association (the attorney for the Schindlers, Terri's parents) will participate in a panel discussion – "Judges: Abortion And Other Life Issues," along with former Vatican Ambassador Ray Flynn.

Other speakers at the Confronting The Judicial War On Faith conference include: Senator Sam Brownback, former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, Alan Keyes, Phyllis Schlafly and Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council.

The conference also will consider Ten Commandments displays and the right of Americans to publicly acknowledge God, judicial nominations, the judicial assault on marriage and remedies to judicial activism.

Moore, another keynote speaker, was removed as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court for refusing an illegal order to take down a 10 Commandments monument.

Scarborough stressed: "This will be an action-oriented conference. Our purpose is to draw up a plan of action to oppose the liberal judges who are abrogating our most precious human rights – including the right to life. Out of it will come a coalition of family groups, ministries and churches dedicated to reversing the tide of the past 40 years."

What I find most amusing are those who have open hostility towards religious people and religion, and yet also claim to be such champions of the Constitution. The founding fathers said essentially that that combination was totally 'NUTS', it would not work. Maybe they think they are smarter than the founders, or understand the Constitution better.

The founders predicted the morass we have today.

George Washington - "..And let us indulge with caution the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion... Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle."

John Adams - "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

This is by far the best news I have heard in a long time. The time has truly come for the conversation to be opened, action to be taken, and the voices of our founding fathers to be heard. The qoutes from the likes of George Washington, Noah Webster and more - are exactly the types of things we must cling to while forming proof of what this country was intended to be. Our case must be iron clad - lest the liberals tear it down.

This country truly cannot continue to function if the path it is on is not corrected. Still with Terri in mind - I believe this is the purpose her life is going to serve.

We, as Conservative Republicans MUST do all we can to help this dialogue - and ensure the truth is out to the general public. The first thing the MSM will do is begin to twist the truth, the conversations, and the agenda of this conference. Time for FReepers to unite, and post all we can , everywhere we can, and support our Conservative Christian Politicians who are trying to make a difference.

I do hope that organizations that defend the rights of the disabled are well represented at these discussions. They had practically no air time while Terri was still alive, while George Felos got his pitiful mug on TV every time he walked outside.

Sure, but be aware that someone has claimed that Madison's quote is bogus.

But hey! If a 3 out of 5 vote of radiologists was good enough to kill Terri, 4 out of 5 founder's quotes should more than suffice for proving the point.

I did. I have to be very careful what I say. There is not much about Terri that I can say without getting kicked off again.

There is nothing I can say about Judge Greer that would not get me kicked off again.

I don't blame JimRob. He is on the same page. He just needs to keep this place legal and public.

As I write this, my mother-in-law is dying in a hospital of a failing heart and kidneys. Her left foot is septic, and she was told she needed amputation to extend her life for some unknown period of time, but her organs are failing in any case.

She was lucid this morning and discussed the subject with her son, my husband, and her doctor. Her choice is no amputation and sooner death from sepsis rather than later death from heart/kidney failure. Her choice was clear (she already had executed a living will, in any case). There is NO DOUBT at ALL about her clear wishes, and her wishes will be followed. For those who might be concerned about this, she is receiving very effective pain meds.

Terri's case was completely different. She was in no way dying, and her wishes were very unclear with a husband with a huge conflict of interest claiming her wish to die and friends and family claiming otherwise. Terri did not fit any humane model for withholding basic care such as hydration and nutrition. As a matter of fact, my husband is insisting that his mom be kept hydrated till she dies.

I post this to show the clear difference between an appropriate approach to these life-and-death decisions and a horrific one.
