Minuteman Project:
Sierra Vista Herald ^ | Tuesday, April 5, 2005 1:19 PM MDT | BILL HESS

FORT HUACHUCA - Senior commanders on this southern Arizona Army post have told soldiers they may not take part in patrolling the border with Minuteman Project volunteers.

In a memo to soldiers assigned to the Network Enterprise Technology Command, Maj. Gen. James Hylton prohibited those assigned to his organization, to include the 11th Signal Brigade, "from participating in any active patrolling, monitoring or other intentional act associated with identifying and/or detaining illegal immigrants, either through an organized group, or on you own."

Probably also wants to avoid possible Posse Comitatus hassles from lefty organizations, which would absolutely surface if active soldiers were found doing this. If the base had said nothing, and a soldier were found participating, the lefties would have called it "tacit approval" and flogged them even harder. I suspect the base absolutely supports the Minuteman actions, and shows it by keeping them from getting shut down as a "side benefit" of a Posse Comitatus lawsuit.

I thought Fort Huachuca was built to protect Americans. At least that is probably what the Apache's, and other tribes, felt.

It is a shame that the Senior Commander can't get off his butt to encourage his people, instead of hindering them.

Satire from pugbus.net:

NACO, Ariz. – Gonzo rocker Ted Nugent rolled into this border town in Cochise County Saturday night to assume command of the Minuteman Project, a citizen’s army dedicated to “taking back” the 370-mile border that separates Arizona and Mexico. Sporting a wide band of black Kiwi shoe polish under each eye and a “Greasers Go Home” T-shirt, Field Commander Nugent delivered an impassioned address to the assembled troops.

“If those dirt bags in Washington don’t have the guts to keep America safe for Americans, we do,” he screamed. “We’re not going to let a swarm of illiterate beaners invade this country and take food out of our children’s mouths just so Taco Bell can find cheap labor.”

Quentin McCallister, 62, recording secretary of the Minuteman Project, told the current affairs desk of the Cochise County Shopper that Nugent was the unanimous choice for the field commander post. According to McCallister, members of the all-volunteer Minuteman Project are sensitive to the perception that groups such as theirs are havens for crackpots, bigots, and xenophobes.

“We needed somebody with name recognition who could give us an air of legitimacy,” said McCallister. “Besides, Ted owns damn near enough guns to outfit our entire force.”

McCallister further explained that the guns worn by members of the Minuteman Project are “mainly for show. Most of our people aren’t allowed to wear guns in their hometowns. Hell, some of them aren’t even allowed to own guns.”

Nugent’s large collection of weapons is not his only qualification for the post of field commander. He also flaunts a keen grasp of immigration policy, which he summed up best in a brief speech to a Texas audience at one of his shows two years ago: “Latino immigrants who don't speak English should swim back where they came from—at the point of a gun if necessary."

The Whackmaster, as Nugent prefers to be called, had been gutting deer on his Texas game preserve, the Bambi House, when he got the call from McCallister.

"I was ready to lock and load," yelled Nugent, 55. "The Whackmaster is the man for the job when it comes to harvesting illegal aliens.”

Field Commander Nugent spent yesterday getting to know many of the fifteen hundred soldiers under his command. He came away impressed by their dedication and by the number of women, retirees, and other veterans of the swap meet circuit who had reported for duty.

“I told them this wasn’t going to be any walk in the park,” shouted Nugent.

Joel Schumacher, 45, an unemployed fry cook from the Bronx, is typical of the spirit that informs the Minuteman Project. Sitting on a rickety lawn chair a hundred feet from the border, Schumacher trained a pair of Kmart binoculars on a group of ACLU volunteers just across the border who had their binoculars trained on him.

“I’ve lost more than one job to a wetback who didn’t have a green card,” said Schumacher. “I’m here to see it doesn’t happen again.”

In related news, the Minuteman Project bagged its first border violator early this morning. “We’ve got one of the bastards,” bellowed Nugent, waving his carbine in the air. Upon closer interrogation, however, the violator turned out to be a Boy Scout executive trying to smuggle child pornography into the United States.

"Upon closer interrogation, however, the violator turned out to be a Boy Scout executive trying to smuggle child pornography into the United States."

WRONG!

Upon closer examination of the records, this is a reference to a lawyer with the FloriDUH Wilflife Conservation Commission. Though the lawyer's computer on his work desk was loaded with child porn, and though the data had been accessed (means looked at for the non-computer buffs), the lawyer only received about 10 days suspension.

PS: He's still stalking the streets and courts of FloriDUH.

Gutless! Our borders are being overrun and the military tells the soldiers not to report the CRIME! If this commander's house was being robbed, I wonder how he would feel if these same soldiers just watch without reporting it to the proper authorities. My tax dollars are being robbed – it’s causing my hospitals and schools to go bankrupt. And the people who are supposed to protect the borders will not even report the crime let alone help. Sick…

I would think that it would be bad news to have the Army, working with the Minutemen.

That would make it look as tho, the Feds were supporting the Minutemen........

If what I am hearing on the Vegas radio, right now is a sample, then you do not come out in support of the Minutemen, it has brought out all the commie/liberals to protest on the talk shows about the Minutemen.

Remember 49+ % of America supports the commies. Who want open borders, so they will have more voters.

More than any one thing, but the commie voters is high on the list.

If anyone doubts they are in Mexico, ask Google.

Probably not. The current military leadership is afraid of CNN. A bad report on the nightly news now ends careers. It's all about PR, you see; it's more important to look good on camera than to actually do your job.

Where have the warriors and patriots gone? They've been replaced by CYA bean-counters.

I received a PDF of the memos on Friday but had not verified them and exported them to JPEG until last night. I posted them on the SEAR Club website last night and the Sierra Vista Herald published the story this morning.

Sorry for the confusion.

Concern for safety is reason; group member says military got bad advice.

Who's the head of our military? President George Bush. He has no doubt forbidden the military to participate because he is fearful that Vicente Fox will become angry with him. Besides, Bush is for open borders and he doesn't want any illegal to be denied coming to America. Gotta keep that Canada, US and Mexico hemisphere thing going, as Fox has told us about a dozen times. But nobody listens.

Thanks for keeping on top of the illegal immigration topics and for all the pings.

I can see why the military can't get involved at this time. The MSM would twist it, even if the soldiers were on their own time. I'm hoping that eventually they will be ordered to help out! The report does say in paragraph 5 that they should still report illegals that they encounter unintentionally and can participate in the MMP as long as they are not patrolling or monitoring. I assume they can man booths, give out information, etc. So, I don't see this as all that bad or unexpected, given the PC world we unfortunately live in.

I agree...especially after John Gibson (subbing for TonySnow on the radio) the other day pretty much ripped Simcox...unfairly in my opinion...usually Gibson's pretty "spot-on" from what I've been able to listen in on. I don't get home in time to catch his television program.
Now that the coverage has been more positive I'll be listening to see what he says next...will be contacting my reps in DC to see how much more in agreement they are in with Tancredo these days as well!!!!!
Seems to be a shift towards the MinutemanProject way of thinking the last few days...these people deserve a ton of credit for getting this rolling. 80% of America agrees with what they're doing and it was revealed today that about the same percent wanted Terri Schiavo to live...we cannot continue to be the "silent" majority...we need to be heard!
I sent out an e-mail to the most local five papers in my area tonite showing my support for the MMP.

I saw that interview - Chris Simcox(sp) was great. He was asked about the Border Patrol's statement that the civilians being there were in jeapardy of violent confrontations with drug dealers and smugglers. He answered it brilliantly - I'm paraphrasing, hopefully someone can post the complete statment he made. He said that that meant the border patrol was aware that our homeland security policy wasn't working and that Americans had to be afraid to be there on U.S. soil because the gov. wasn't protecting us. Well put!

A clear violation of Posse Comatatus, and a signed confession to boot! This general belongs in Levinworth.

With an attourney general named "Alberto Gonzales", I don't think that will be happening. More likely, Gonzales will present him with a La Raza award.

After reading the actual document so thoughtfully provided by spiff I hereby retract my claims to Posse Commitatus..

Paragraph 4 clearly states..
" I strongly encourage all civilians within this command to refrain from participating... "

Posse Commitatus refers to military involvement in civilian law enforcement..
There is no military involvement.. The advisory is to civilian employees of the Command..

Further, it is an advisory only, not a directive..
No threats concerning involvement have been made, no penalty, no claims that such activity is illegal, or against the Command's regulations..

The Commander has merely expressed his concern, and "encouraged" civilian employees to refrain from participating.

Under such circumstances, while some employees may be intimidated and refrain from that perspective, they are ultimately free to choose, and act according to their own conscience..
I would hope that they would ignore this communication and act in the interests of their country..

Fox wants to expand military ties with Russia
BY JOHN RICE/Associated Press
El Universal
Viernes 04 de junio de 2004
Nuestro mundo, página 7

THE PRESIDENT SAYS THE PRINCIPLE TOPIC OF TALKS WITH RUSSIAN PRESIDENT PUTIN WILL BE MORE COOPERATION ON MAKING HELICOPTERS.

President Vicente Fox says his country hopes to expand military cooperation with Russia, assembling some Russian helicopters here and importing a mixed civilian-military factory. Speaking in the state of Hidalgo on Wednesday, Fox said the arms issue would be "a principal topic" in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is scheduled to arrive on Monday. Fox gave few details, but said possible projects include "the installation of a large maintenance center for helicopters" as the first step in a plan to assemble helicopters in the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz.

The president said he also hoped to sign an agreement with Putin for a plant that would assemble heavy machinery "for the military industry, heavy machinery for the construction industry, heavy and transport machinery for various uses that occur in a dynamic economy." Fox said that factory was intended for Ciudad Sahagun, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of Mexico City. The president mentioned the arms plans briefly during a speech dedicated to regional economic development. Mexico largely avoided Russian equipment during the Cold War.

But since the collapse of the Soviet Bloc, it has begun to adopt some Russian equipment, which is less expensive than that sold by the neighboring United States or most European suppliers. The Air Force and Navy operate at least 56 Russian-made transport helicopters, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Retired Gen. Luis Garcías Magaña, a former federal congressman, said Mexico would have to carefully study which Russian material should be made here, "not because it is bad, but because the investment is very high." "Weapons and helicopters that is complicated because you not only have to bring the factory but also bring experts, as they did with former Soviets in Cuba, to train Mexican personnel." He noted that such factories often can be used for civilian production as well. "From the practical point of view, the Mexican armed forces don't need huge things." Marco Vicenzino, a Latin America specialist at the IISS Washington office, said the projects were not likely to create a problem with the United States. "You're not talking missiles here," he said. "I don't see any major threat." "It just gives competition for the market."
