Such an election would be cataclysmically devastating to the Chinese govt. It would be a rolling wave that would embolden their people to change. Are there any Chinese expatriate Bishops/cardinals in contention?
Naming Cardinals in some cultures is tantamount to signing a death warrant...many speculate that the one Cardinal who was "named in the heart" by JPII is from PRC, N Korea, Cuba or an arabic country. All but three of the voting Cardinals were named by JPII.
