Authorities determined Thursday three volunteers involved in a civilian project to watch the border and report illegal crossers had an illegal immigrant pose for a flippant photograph but did not hold him against his will.
The Mexican man had told sheriff's deputies he was detained and forced to pose for a picture holding a T-shirt with a mocking slogan. A review of a 15-minute videotape provided by Bryan Barton, one of the three volunteers, showed the T-shirt the man was holding read: "Bryan Barton caught an illegal alien and all I got was this lousy T-shirt." Barton was wearing an identical shirt.
"The county attorney's office reviewed all available evidence, that indicates that there was no forcible detention, therefore the case is not substantiated, and no charges are pending," said Carol Capas, a spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff's Department.

The prankster gave the illegal water, food and a $20 bill - and he got to keep the t-shirt! America, what a country!
I gotta admit...great story...laughed out loud( how cruel of me)
you just knew the media was going to find someone who screwed up
A more truthful t-shirt would have said "I'm with stupid"
And thats just the ACLU members attacking the minute men.
Those cries of these volunteers being the "first line of defense" and being necessary because the government isn't doing its job ring decidedly hollow.
if there is a bigger pencil-necked goober than colmes will someone please tell me who it is ?
Meanwhile, illegals continue to rape this country.
As hollow as our government?
"Those cries of these volunteers being the "first line of defense" and being necessary because the government isn't doing its job ring decidedly hollow."
Like how you conflate one guy with all. That's a logical fallacy called "fallacy of composition," mistaking the part for the whole.
Your post rings decidedly hollow.
"if there is a bigger pencil-necked goober than colmes will someone please tell me who it is ?"
Certain illegal alien apologists who infest this fine forum would qualify.
It would be pretty gratifying if an ACLU'er got in the way of a "coyote" or a drug smuggler....
Not entirely. After all, the government isn't doing its job.
Headline should have been: "Illegal Immigrant Fabricated Charges"
how about that ? let the sympathizers pick up the check
"alan colmes was SO indignant tonight" -
He trotted out his worn out "are you calling him a liar?" routine, and I was elated to hear Simcox say, "Yes". Colmes does this nearly every night and everyone else backs away delicately. It is certainly a very irritating agenda Colmes has and I guess we all watch hoping he'll get frustrated but he doesn't seem to. Can it really all go over his head? He'll watch the video Simcox promised Sean but he won't believe it hasn't been altered. Maybe he'll explode tomorrow night.
we can only hope
"my suggestion is for each "illegal alien apologist" to sponsor an illegal alien and pay for food, shelter, medical care and education for him and his family instead of the government(taxpayers) bearing this monstrous expense."
My neighbor suggested I should be more compassionate to the homeless in the form of tax $
I suggested that if he felt like he wasn't "giving" enough through his taxes that I'd be happy to print some flyers with his address and phone number, and hand them out to homeless people. That way they could come camp in his backyard, use his shower, eat food in his kitchen, and generally be more comfortable than they are. I told him how much they'd appreciate his direct compassion.
He wasn't too fond of that idea.
Dane, how about freepmailing me your street address? I'll buy a few illegals a greyhound bus ticket and send them your way. You can put 'em up at your place for a while. Deal?

Does anyone see a family resemblance between colmes and a space alien ?
(yawn) Yeah, whatever.
If you think our government is hollow, check out DU, your soulmates there agree with you.
That might be a touch unfair to space aliens. After all, they could be perfectly wonderful ???? beings AND conservative! Would I prefer to see one opposite Sean each night - absolutely! How does Sean keep his composure I wonder? I only know my husband walks out of the house muttering under his breath every time Alan speaks.
"(yawn) Yeah, whatever."
...that sounds like the decidedly hollow and dismissive ring of someone who can't back up what they say.
Facts are inconvenient things for guys like you.
I open my offer in post #19 to you
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1379587/posts?page=19#19
Freepmail me your address, you can demonstrate your compassion by putting up a few illegals at your house.
Of course, since you said "Those cries of these volunteers being the "first line of defense" and being necessary because the government isn't doing its job ring decidedly hollow." you seem to believe that FedGov is doing an swell job, and there really are no illegal aliens anywhere for the MM to be deterring.
Lemme ship you a few. I'd love to prove you wrong.
"Headline should have been: "Illegal Immigrant Fabricated Charges""
People are jailed every day for lying to federal agents.
As pointed out by another Freeper, this malicious (he lied trying to get the Minutemen arrested) lying illegal alien has more rights than Martha Stewart, she went to prison for lying to the feds. The hypocrisy of this government and law enforcement is revolting and sickening.
This is for your husband. It's the "Alan Colmes is on TV Survival Kit"
two words Al Frranken
They showed the video of this on local (Arizona) news. The gave him Wheaties and milk! Plus the $20 and then turned him over to the border patrol agents.
another colmes-class goober
I suggested that if he felt like he wasn't "giving" enough through his taxes that I'd be happy to print some flyers ...
LOL and reminded of a story from a few years ago: a friend who lives in Berkeley (yes, THE Berkeley) told of one evening when her husband arrived home and saw the ocassional neighborhood homeless fellow in front of their house. He asked the guy if he would like some dinner. The guy hesitated just a bit and then said, "What are you having tonight?"
So far none of the illegal alien invader apologists have taken me up on my offer to send them some illegals via Grayhound.
It's a win-win!
My fine state will have a few less illegal aliens.
The apologists can demonstrate their compassion.
"i tell you what else is mind-boggling. colmes is monica crowley's brother-in-law"
Yes - and have you ever seen a picture of the wife - YIKES! Talk about space aliens.....I cannot believe she is related to Monica Crowley. What's that saying about falling from the top of a tree and hitting all the branches on the way down? I think that's what happened - only she picked Alan up on one of those branches on her way down.

Sorry - Late for me at the computer...I still have work to do in the house. Finger got away from me.
LOL
Ask your stupid "compassionate" neighbor if he was in dire straights would he go door to door in the neighborhood asking for money.
The answer I'm sure would be "no". Then ask him why he thinks it's okay to vote for jerk-off politicians that pass laws that take away his neighbors money and gives it to him instead.
This usually gets the deer-in-the-headlights look. This is my favorite analogy from Dr. Walter E. Williams.
How much of Leviticus do you follow to the letter, exactly?
Don't pull this selective, out of context quoting stuff on me, it won't work.
Immigrant wasn't detained by border volunteers, authorities say
TUCSON - Three volunteers for a civilian project to watch the Arizona-Mexico border and report illegal crossers didn't hold an illegal immigrant against his will, authorities said Thursday.
~snip~
That's that.
And what did Jesus say in the new testament about the thief that entered not by the gate, but snuck in over the fence?
The Good Shepherd knows his own...
Thanks for adding so much to the debate.
Welcome. Leviticus also provides admonishmetn for homosexuality. Do you follow that too?
Meek, thx for the ping. Wanna sniff this one out?
I'm talking about effectively keeping them out. I was all for these guys from the start. If you think these fools goofing off with pranks is an effective way of keeping these illegals out, I can understand your defense of this buffoonish behavior in this important job.
You sound like one of those DUers who think supporting the war means I have to go to Iraq, but you really should think about the position you're responding to instead of this "How dare you criticize anyone on this side of the issue!" silliness especially when I AM on this side of the issue.

This guy acted like an idiot, but even the Mexican consul agreed that no one was forcibly detained. Considering the claims that were made about the MM ahead of time, some California yay-hoo feeding and taking a picture of an illegal alien holding a t-shirt is small time stuff.
"You sound like one of those DUers who..."
It gets really tiring to see people on FR conflate anyone they have a slight disagreement with to a DUer. Doncha think?
"...think supporting the war means I have to go to Iraq, but you really should think about the position you're responding to instead of this "How dare you criticize anyone on this side of the issue!" silliness especially when I AM on this side of the issue."
Well.
You also said "Those cries of these volunteers being the "first line of defense" and being necessary because the government isn't doing its job ring decidedly hollow."
Do you think FedGov is actually doing it's job in this area?
If not, I don't have any problem with law abiding citizens stepping in.
