NEWS RELEASE: POPE’S BURIAL ENDS THE LULL—STORM COMING ["the Left is ready to explode"]
CatholicLeague.Org ^ | April 8, 2005 | William Donohue

Posted on 04/08/2005 7:23:59 AM PDT by fight_truth_decay

Catholic League president William Donohue remarked as follows:

“The storm is about to hit. For the most part, anti-Catholic bigots and the disaffected dissidents within the Church have been quiet. What they have been waiting for is about to happen: the week between the end of the mourning and the beginning of the conclave is upon us. And that means the Left is ready to explode.

“Consider what we’ve heard already. Amidst the mostly favorable coverage by the media of Pope John Paul II, he has been branded as follows: an authoritarian who seeks to silence dissent; the enemy of homosexuals; a misogynist; a polarizing figure; a man who is out of touch with the modern world; a contributor to death due to AIDS in Africa; responsible for the sexual abuse scandal; and so on.

“And we’ve heard a CBS newsperson blast the pope for ruling the Church with ‘an iron fist’ (this was said between the final four basketball games on Saturday); the Jewish Forward said whatever good he did may be undermined by his ‘battles around the world for sexual repressiveness and against reproductive freedom’; the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis posted a sign on its property saying, ‘ALL WELCOME, CHRIST IS ALIVE, THE POPE IS DEAD’; the president of the J. Paul Getty Trust commented on ‘the spectacle of grotesquerie and human ruin that has lately filled the balcony above St. Peter’s Square’; Christopher Hitchens said he was ‘part of the coverup and obstruction of justice’ attendant to the homosexual scandal; Sister Helen Prejean, who is soft on abortion, took him to task for not changing his mind soon enough on capital punishment (and in doing so managed to misrepresent his pronouncements on the subject—the pope never said it was an intrinsic evil like abortion); and a website called ‘HillaryNow,’ operated by Robert Kunst, said that when the pope went to Israel, he ordered an ambulance to follow him so that in the event he needed a transfusion, he would not have to access ‘Jewish blood.’

“But this is nothing. Many have been waiting for this moment for more than a quarter century. When they lose again, watch out.”

If true, this kind of rhetoric needs to be exposed and people need to know what kind of "friends" Hillary has.

I am not Catholic but greatly admired and respected Pope John Paul II for his commitment to the church and his willingness to speak out for what is right. Those "Catholics" who are now seeing this as an opportunity to put the church on the course they choose is disturbing. Maybe they should just join the Universal Unitarians. I'm sure they'd be much happier.

They will attempt to trash anything that they fear, patriotism, adherence to the Constituion, even the love of God.

Attacking a dead man is a poor strategy.

Attacking a dead man who is loved by billions is a very poor strategy.

I expect nothing less from the Democrats.

This article claims the Pope is responsible for abortion-clinic bombings, which it makes seem are a part of daily life in the reign of terror of the Holy Roman Empire of America.

And also for AIDS, because he doesn't advocate teaching African men to wear condoms when they rape women.

In 2000 when John Paul came to Jerusalem, I led a protest against his policies at the Holocaust Memorial(Yad Vashem) he came to. We had 40 Israelis, and I asked why $millions in Jewish holy books, and Torahs and artifacts stolen in the Holocaust were sitting under the Vatican and not returned to the Jewish people.

John Paul added more insult on his trip by insisting that the ambulance following him there not have the Jewish Star on it, or that those who might give him transfusions, had any Jewish blood.

For now, while asking very pointed questions, has given Catholics the chance to answer those questions. And the answers have been excellent. Thank God that somehow the representatives of the Catholic Church have mostly been men of good faith and allegiance to Rome. They have been given the chance to build a fortress against the coming storm and Praise God, they have taken it. And I am grateful for the fact that sources such as ABC News have sought out faithful representatives.

I do believe we are being given a choice: Stand for God and light and life or join those who are out there to destroy. Even if you don't take action, you have stood for death by your inaction.

See the clouds gathering. They are dark, not distant, and lightning is flashing in the heavens. Decide, O Man, where you stand.

>> I asked why $millions in Jewish holy books, and Torahs and artifacts... <<

I think it quite telling that the author values Torahs based on their resale value, don't you?

>> John Paul added more insult on his trip by insisting that the ambulance following him there not have the Jewish Star on it <<

Perhaps here lies the seed of the lie: I could certainly understand the Pope being careful to not have a Jewish star on an ambulance which would follow him deep into Palestinian territory. OTOH, it may well be pure lie.

I agree, but I would add that the reason they fear it has to do with anyone (Pope, Bush, Falwell, etc.) or anything (Bible, Constitution, Church, etc.) that tells them they are wrong on any front.

PRIDE is the first deadly sin listed, and can be connected to almost any sin you can name. "I will put my throne in the heavens....."

That's why disagreement has been labeled "hate".

I personally hope that it comes.

The Church thrives when it is persecuted. When the Church is persecuted, it proclaims its message in clearest form, without dilution or fear of repercussion. Those that are in the Church merely to pay it lip service or to try to change it are weeded out, leaving those that are faithful to its doctrine, and the grace of God is left to touch the hearts of those that stay all the more through the difficulties they face in not leaving.

I stated in another thread that I hope the next pope alienates liberal Catholics in the same way that Christ was not afraid to alienate those around him in His proclamation of Truth. The world will always hate those that follow Christ, just as the world hated Him. We should not fear to bear our cross.

Oh no, that wouldn't make them happy at all. If they left the church, the church would remain as it is, and that's what can't be allowed. Their mission is not just to change the catholic church to their liking but to destroy the church. They can only destroy the church from within.

I am speechless at what insensitive bastards some people who call themselves Christians can be. I can't imagine that when the leader of their church dies, real Christians would do the same.

Maybe they should just join the Universal Unitarians. I'm sure they'd be much happier.

They want to destroy the Catholic Church, not find a place to worship. The ACLU attacks the Boy Scouts instead of forming a Queer Atheists Scouts because they don't want straight religious boys to have a place to meet without being indoctrinated to the queer atheist agenda. Similarly, the so-called liberal Catholics want to destroy the Catholic Church, as the Word of God is an offense to them.

John Paul II's similar gestures toward Jews were welcomed in Israel, according to Haaretz. "From his first visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1979 to his visit to Israel in 2000 -- during which he asked forgiveness at Yad Vashem [the Holocaust memorial] and put a note in the Western Wall -- the 26 years of his papacy were full of efforts to effect a major reform" in the relationship between Jews and Christians, said the liberal daily.

Pope John Paul II prays at the Western Wall in Jerusalem in March 2000, a gesture that made him popular in Israel. (AP)

"He was the first pope to visit a synagogue, when he prayed at the Great Synagogue in Rome in 1986; in a speech in 1997 he said that Christians had failed during the Holocaust; during his visit to Israel, he apologized for the behavior of Christians who had caused the Jews to suffer; and he coined the term 'elder brothers' to describe the Jews."

His Holiness remarkable pilgrimage to the Holy Land and his support for the Palestinian right for self determination are source of proud and strength to us," the prisoners wrote in a condolence letter to the Vatican.

To be sure, John Paul II had critics. On Monday, Iran's hard-line press "denounced pope John Paul II for his efforts to reconcile with the Jewish people, saying Israel should be seen as an enemy of the church and not just the Islamic republic," according to IranMania, a London-based news site.

"Not only did the pope never condemn the crimes of the 'Zionist regime' in the territories, the Vatican officially recognised its existence," the fundamentalist Jomhuri Islami newspaper complained.

Likewise, a columnist for the Jerusalem Post lamented John Paul II's opposition to the Iraq war and his sympathy for the Palestinians by describing him as "The Pope Who Loved Too Much."

Jeruselum is not "deep into Palestinian terriroty". Even before the '67 war it was a divided city, half in Jordan, half in Israel. Your basic point is well taken though, as the top of the wailling wall, which the pope visited, is a Mosque that has been the source of violance for those visiting the wall in the past.
