Woman warned grandson about robbery before he died while robbing

State Wire

April 5, 2005 0405BC-WI--FATALROBB

RACINE, Wis. (AP) - The grandmother of a 20-year-old man who was shot and killed by a man he was trying to rob said she's not mad at the man who shot him.

....... Schwartz said the group approached a 64-year-old man from Yorktown, Ark., at about 6 a.m. Sunday.

One of them had a gun and they demanded the man turn over his van and money.

The man refused, Schwartz said, and Moss and his cousins began punching him. The boys then took the man's walking cane and beat him with that, Schwartz said.

At that point the man took out a gun and shot Moss, Schwartz said.

This is some more interesting detail about the Wisconsin self defense shooting. The prosecutor has since decided not to prosecute the 64 year old from Arkansas who defended himself against these young thugs.

Wisconsin has laws prohibiting both concealed carry and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, but these predate a State constitutional amendment that guarantees the right to keep and carry arms for defense and security. The laws have not yet been ruled unconstitutional, which may be why the notoriously antifreedom Milwaukee prosecutor's office decided not to make this a test case.

she's not mad at the man who shot him

This story is quite a change from the usual "he was such a good boy who never got in any trouble" kind of story.

Trying to pick an easy mark, an elderly person.

I'm glad the 'easy mark' was a great marksman

When I was just a baby,
My Mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy,
Don't ever play with guns.

But I shot a man in Reno
Just to watch him die...

"I feel that the guy had options," Darron Moss said. "He could have shot in the air or screamed and scared them.

A tragedy for the guy's father for sure, but Moss had options, too.

Nope. Wrong about that.

Lockridge-Lewis and Moss' father, Darron Moss, said the incident was out of character for the young man.

"I feel that the guy had options," Darron Moss said. "He could have shot in the air or screamed and scared them. You can replace things stolen, but not a life."

Oh yeah, a harsh rebuke always makes the bad guys go away...they were lucky he didn't chose the option to kill them all. Don't mess with guys from Arkansas packing heat.

This is more typical," Darron Moss said. "He could have shot in the air or screamed and scared them".
Hey, Darron, some folks don't waste ammunition, and just never learned to scream!

The Strib article says that the Arkansas man was arrested. Out of state gun?

This story is quite a change from the usual "he was such a good boy who never got in any trouble" kind of story.

The father is still in the "good boy" mode though:

Lockridge-Lewis and Moss' father, Darron Moss, said the incident was out of character for the young man.

"I feel that the guy had options," Darron Moss said. "He could have shot in the air or screamed and scared them. You can replace things stolen, but not a life."

Well that will learn me for not reading the entire story. I believe that Mr. Moss needs to be hit with a cane numerous times and see how he would react.

Grandma gets it

But the Father doesn't.

Lockridge-Lewis and Moss' father, Darron Moss, said the incident was out of character for the young man. "I feel that the guy had options," Darron Moss said. "He could have shot in the air or screamed and scared them. You can replace things stolen, but not a life."

They were only beating him up with his own cane, Father.
