I heard that the gun registry was mostly implemented to create a way to launder fund transfers to the liberal party and their cronys.
As for the party system in Canada: Conservative/Reform =GOP
Liberal/NDP= Democrats. Bloc=separatist(Quebec only)

The NDP are more like the European socialist parties. The closest US ally to them is Ralph Nader.

Did you know that Stephen Harper has promised to ABOLISH the gun registry as soon as he gets elected Prime Minister. He will also cancel Canada's involvement in the Kyoto Treaty.
