DeLay's Backers Launch Offense
Washington Post ^ | April 10, 2005 | Mike Allen

Posted on 04/09/2005 7:56:45 PM PDT by FairOpinion

Officials working with DeLay said he is trying to lock in support by sowing the message that an attack on him is an attack on the conservative movement, and that taking him out would be the Democrats' first step toward regaining control of the House and Senate. These officials said they believe the attacks are part of a strategy by Democrats, aided by watchdog groups funded by liberals, to use the ethics process to try to regain power.

At the same time, DeLay is continuing his high-decibel comments -- including his warning last week about "a judiciary run amok" -- on the theory that he is going to remain himself and not bend to the opposition, friends say.

Well, I am certainly glad we have at least one Republican who is not willing to "bend to the opposition", i.e. lie down and get run over by the Democrats.

I hope Republicans get behind DeLay and support him and start attacking Democrats. Remember, the best defense is an offense, which the Dems have down pat, but the Republicans don't.

The Dems are trying to get rid of DeLay, the way they got rid of Gingrich and Lott. And they can't do anything, unless the Republicans will cave and join them -- as they did in the case of Gingrich and Lott.

Good. There are plenty of people who support DeLay on the judicial issue.

If the Democrats could rally behind a sleazy rat like clinton, then I don't see why the Republicans can't rally behind one of their own for a change. If they don't, they will just be admitting defeat--once again.

So, what this campaign proposes to say is essentially true. If the Pubbies back down, they will disgust a lot of conservatives who aren't all that certain what the Republican party stands for.

Also, frankly, we need to take the MSM down a peg, and this is a good way to do it--by standing up to the liars and telling them off.

Agreed. Too many Republicans have been forced to exit leadership positions because of the coordinated attacks by leftists and their whores in the MSM. Republicans need to start going "nuclear" more often whenever these coordinated attacks target their leaders. It's a never ending game with Democrats. Tear down strong Republican leaders any chance they get no matter the reason. And truth doesn't matter, just tear them down and force them out. The Republicans need to put these jackals and THEIR allies on the defensive and force them constantly defend THEMSELVES! The Democrats NEVER stop attacking, and yet the Republicans STILL don't understand it!

God almighty, what will it take for the Republicans to go on the offensive and not stop until the jackals and their allies are utterly defeated?

The Republican Party has phoning non stop for donations.

Today I told them N-O! Call me when the party begins to back Tom DeLay, and not one red penny before.

Tom Delay has been a good fighter for our side. But, I think he would better serve if he left congress and spent all of his time working those organizations that he runs. Also, instead of legislating he could spend time trying to get money into a conservative press and other tactics to minimize the dirty MSM. If he can't do that then no one can.

I wish the senate would learn from DeLay.

What? Leave Congress? He needs to be our next Speaker of the House.

We need our agenda shoved down the throats of all the RINOs and RATS for once.

No, that's not a good idea. He has far more influence where he is.

Things are different now than when they torpedoed Newt.

Fox news, FR, talk radio is absolutely snowballing...back then there was just Rush, blogs, etc.

Rush brought up some interesting and highly damaging stuff about Dingy Harry Reid's dirty doings.

They need to get a dose of their own medicine.

The republicans have had plenty of opportunity in the past to throw Delay under the bus and they haven't.

Yep. I don't believe they can slime Republicans to death like they used to. Most Republicans don't view the MSM as truth anymore; they're just the opposition media.

At times, I am as frustrated with Republicans as anyone else. Too often they talk the talk, but they won't walk the walk. At the first sign of controversy or criticism, they slink away and abandon the people who stood up and took the arrows.

Unity is the operable word. Republicans need more of it.

DeLay is basically the only Republican I don't blame for Terri Schindler's ghastly death.

"I don't believe they can slime Republicans to death like they used to. "

===

Sure they can -- have you forgotten Trent Lott and the chorus right here on FR, screaming to have him resign his majority leader position? Do you remember WHY they demanded that he resign? How ridiculous can you get and the Republicans didn't stand up for him.

The Dems can't touch the Republicans, unless they cooperate but they do, very obligingly to the Dems, most of the time.

Well, duh, that's because it is.

Oh yeah, I remember the Trent Lott thing well. I don't think the media could have taken him down by themselves. So when it looked like Lott might not jump, we pushed him. We thought we were gonna get New Senate Leadership with a spine. Live and learn.
