THE pope's funeral placed Mel Gibson into divine contem plation. And what he's contemplating is following the movie of Jesus Christ with a movie of John Paul. The Savior played well at the box office but scourging, flogging and crucifying is a tough act to follow. Unless it's "Mary Magdalene: The Musical," there seemed no other religious follow-up idea. Jesus wasn't going to rise again just for a sequel. But then came the mighty pageantry, the millions of pilgrims and the towering power of the Vatican. Mel dispatched a production crew to film the spectacle, crowd scenes, the historic majesty. In other words, the ending of his future film is already in the can. No business like show business.

It would probably be a great story to tell...PJPII was an amazing person with a turbulent and fascinating life -- be a great movie, if they stick to the real story...
Mel has denied he is making a Fatima movie.
I vote for a remake of "The Life of Brian"
Cool But I want him to do a Remake of Que Vadalis.(sp)
I just read "Stealing From Angels", which was rumored recently as the basis for Mel's next film.
Having now read it, I'm here to tell you that the story has little appeal to anyone other than the SSPX crowd.
The book, although fiction, accuses the Vatican of conspiring with the Nazis. It also declares that John Paul I was the target of a murder plot -- from within the Vatican and that the Holy See has disobeyed the BVM's messages of Fatima by failing to consecrate Russia and refusing to release the "true" third secret.
Dang! I would have loved to seen that. I think it would be an excellent topic!!
Didn't David Yallop write about the death of Pope John Paul I ; and the Mafia and P2 involvement in a bunch of fake Vatican Bank bonds?
Quo Vadis = "Where are you going"
For those who don't know the legend: In AD 64 Emperor Nero began his persecution of the Christians in order to escape blame for the Great Fire (he didn't have as many cruise missiles as Clinton, so he did the next best thing). In response, Peter and some companions left Rome on the Via Appia. As they walked along, they came upon Jesus walking the other way. Peter shouted "Jesu quo vadisne?" which is Latin for "Jesus, where are you going?". Jesus replied "I'm going to Rome to be crucified again. Quo vadis?" He then walked on and disappeared. At that point, Peter turned around, walked back to Rome and became a martyr.
Mel has been very circumspect in his public statements on John Paul II. My hope is that his exposure to many devout Catholics who are also faithful to the Pope during the making of "The Passion" has caused him to move away from the sedevacantist views of his father.
Gene Hackman? Pope-mobile chase sequence through the streets of the Vatican? I like it!
You are talking about David Yallop's book IN GODS NAME about the events surrounding JPI's death
If you want to look at an excellent book on Vatican involvement in money laundering try to find the only Nick Tosches book that is out of print - POWER ON EARTH.
Other great books on these topics are:

The Calvi Affair, by Larry Gurwin.

>> Que Vadalis. <<
I think Que Vadalis must be a farce planned by the makers of the Onion. ("What Vidalia?")
You mean, "Quo Vadis," perhaps? ("Where Goeth Thou?")
Godfather, part III
Yes I was unaware until reading up on Mel Gibson that there is such a thing as atholic Orthodox, ie Catholic churchs that have rejected Vatican II, still doing the Latin masses etc....
The pope's funeral placed Mel Gibson into divine contemplation......Life of John Paul 11 next Mel project?
I still wait for Mad Max IV: Fury Road. :(
