Yes, of course it depends on the situation. I would defend my mother, my children, my grandchildren, or anyone else being attacked by vicious dogs. I would defend my dogs or cats if they were being attacked.
I live in the country. I own 10 acres of land. My sister-in-law owns the other 98 acres. My dog, the young one Harm, runs on our property when my son-in-law lets his bird dog run loose. Otherwise, Harm stays with me.

Well, they come in all stripes huh?

That's just a weird story. They're probably both nuts. Who would be insane enough to handle an annoying neighbor's chihuahua with a pellet gun? D'oh! I'd suggest a paintball gun.
However, the idea that the dog was barking aggressively? Was this after the shot or before? Wouldn't you think the dog would be yelping, at the very least?

I'd suggest a paintball gun. Oh - and only if you had a clear shot at the hindquarters. A dog that small is likely to die of shock if you hit the ribcage or head. But they do have those little kid paintball guns that shoot a really low muzzle velocity.

"However, the idea that the dog was barking aggressively? Was this after the shot or before?"It is my understanding (not from the article but from neighborhood gossip) that the guy was trying to do some work in his yard and the dog was constantly yapping away at him through the fence. I guess then the guy got frustrated and went and got the pellet gun.

Whoa! I just had a picture of kerry and boxer yapping away at Bolton. Too bad he couldn't shoot them "through the fence."

the guy was trying to do some work in his yard and the dog was constantly yapping away at him through the fence. What an a&&. While it is terribly annoying to have the neighbor's dog do that, but sheesh just wear earplugs or something.
Or hit it just enough to sting with a slingshot if you absolutely must. OR even better, file a formal complaint.

My mom has a nutty neighbor who insists my mom is having an affair with her horrible husband. My mom has enough trouble just getting through her day with her arthritis, like she is going to want to deal with these people. But man, you don't go do something so stupid in return to a nutcase neighbor and give them 'justification' for their insane behavior.

CHIHUAHUA SHOT: NEIGHBOR PRAISED
To: Hatteras
Tension had existed between the neighbors since winter, when Dernev's pit bull attacked Charlie, and Young notified Cary's animal control department, she said. A pitbull attacked a chihuahua and the chihuahua lived? Not very likely, imo.
