Jennie Wade was killed by a bullet that went through the door. Many buildings in Gettysburg still bear the scars today, including the shell-hole in the Trostle barn.

It was delightful. When I arrived, I was so overwhelmed by things to do and see that I decided to just wing it and go wherever I drifted to. I only live an hour and a half away, so it isn't a big deal to go back.
My friend, the vicious fiend in California who started this whole Civil War interest in me to begin with, got a 'phone call from on top of Little Round Top last evening. Take *that*!

I think if my husband had not just been to the bathroom, he would have wet his pants...he was really scared...You know, I brought this up to him, just within the last hour or so, since we have been talking about this...and he says, even after almost 30yrs, he can still hear those sounds when he remembers the event...scarey, indeed...
I'd heard a lot about that! I've also seen it on the internet. Then if you'd ever watched "The Travel Channel", or sometimes, "The History Channel", they have shows on around Halloween. There was on one of these, where people who have gone there have reported strange stuff going on!
One was where two women, who had heard about the apparitions, decided to go there at night; or at least part of the battlefield. They saw a strange light coming through the trees, and there was the figure of a woman dressed in white.
It seemed as if she were crying, or something. These women watched her for a minute, and she disappeared! One of the women, who was a nurse, begin to cry. She couldn't explain just why! I'd heard of others too, brrrr....
On another note, I'd read that another haunted spot was where Guilford Courthouse was involved in the Revolutionary War. Not too much has been reported recently; but in one account I'd read, even back right after the battle occurred; it was reported that some of the spirits of the men that died there, were seen walking around there in the vicinity of where the courthouse was!
Of course, the courthouse itself is gone, and it is a large military park, with pathways, and memorial stones here and there. But who knows? Strange things do happen in this world!
So what did you end up doing John? Where did you stay? Where did you eat. What were your good/not so good experiences?
Okay...and it seems like a million years ago.
Stayed at the Gettysburg Inn, right on the square, in town. Easy walking distance to everything in town.
Must see: Gettysburg College. A gorgeous campus.
Must see National Military Museum (I might be wrong on the name), where you can buy a 3- or 4-hour CD guided tour to the battlefield. We bought the 3-hour, and ended up wishing we'd gotten the 4!
What a place.
Current caveat: We were there in the spring, the first warm weekend. We found out: It's going to be crazy-crowded till the fall. Bear that in mind.

If it's still there see the Cyclorama, a large in the round painting of the high point of Pickett's charge. Devil's Den, a rock formation that was fought over, and Little Round Top, where Chamberlain had his moment of glory are also worth seeing. You might also want to do some of the Pennyslvania Dutch stuff further east near Lancaster, too. Some people really like it, though I don't know much about the details.

BTW, their fighting over building a casino in the area. The locals don't want it. Figures, a liberal governor is pushing it.
