Mexico's Act of War
WND ^ | Ap 14 05 | Joe Farah

Posted on 04/14/2005 8:42:25 AM PDT by churchillbuff

What would you call it if a neighboring country used its military forces to escort illegal border crossers, including drug-runners, to border areas known to be less secure?

I'd call it an act of war.

And that's what the Mexican government stands accused of doing this week – not just by the Minuteman Project President Bush derides as a "vigilante" movement, but by Border Patrol officers and elected U.S. officials.

President Bush still has a little time to save face – though it is slipping away quickly.

He can change directions, admit that the Mexican border poses the No. 1 national security threat to the United States and take definitive action to secure it, or he can face the almost certain risk of a major terrorist attack on this country with the border providing the entry point.

There are simply no other choices for Bush.

The "cheap labor" argument no longer holds water – not when we are squandering billions on ineffectual homeland security provisions that are rendered meaningless by the openness of the border.

Members of the president's own party in Congress are the whistleblowers on this latest outrage. He can't blame partisan politics. The president's support on every other issue of importance to his administration depends on a quick reversal of his misguided border policies.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., and chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, had some harsh but appropriate words for Bush's blindness to the border threat:

The president of Mexico is threatening to sue any member of the Minuteman who have contact with a Mexican national, threatening to take the U.S. into the International Court of Justice at the Hague over the passage of Prop 200 in Arizona, and is providing transportation to Mexican nationals trying to sneak into the U.S. ... One could say he is acting in the best interest of his nation. Isn't it unfortunate we cannot say the same thing about President Bush?

Border Patrol sources say the Mexican army recently moved about 1,000 troops to the Agua Prieta region, just south of where the Minutemen are. These troops, the sources say, are diverting all of the illegal alien and drug-smuggling traffic away from the Minutemen.

Only dramatic action by Bush can save his presidency from disgrace.

He needs to place troops on the border to supplement Border Patrol agents. He needs to support congressional efforts to hire 10,000 more Border Patrol agents over the next five years. And he needs to work with Congress on a bill to seal the entire Mexican border with a security fence.

Those should be the minimal conditions Congress requires even for discussion of the president's misguided call for a "guest-worker" amnesty program.

Even if the nation were not facing an imminent threat from cross-border terrorism, this would be the only responsible course of action. But today, after what Americans witnessed Sept. 11, 2001, we all recognize the next attack could be far worse.

It's time for Bush to admit he was wrong – that he made a mistake, that he miscalculated the threat the open border represents.

Yes, he will open himself to criticism by those who will never support him. But he can still win back the tens of millions of responsible Americans who only want what is best for this country.

Time is running out for the Bush administration and the future of his party.

If Republicans don't provide Americans with an alternative and responsible immigration and border policy, the party will go the way of the Whigs and the Bull Moose Party.

The clock is ticking and the bomb that will doom the Republicans and destroy the Bush legacy and kill untold numbers of Americans could go off at any moment.

I'd call it an act of war.

I'd concur.

I've been reading the Constitution, and cannot figure out something. How is
it that we are being invaded on our southern border, and there are almost no
members of Congress who are opposing this? There are maybe a handful who
are vocal. What am I not getting?

The Constitution is being trampled upon. Congress, do something!

I understand the concern. But that's never been irreversable, and they can only do so much in 4-8 years. Right now, the GOP is doing a pretty good dismantling job themselves. Somebody needs to pull the brake.

I don't disagree with you, but I believe this issue not to be a clear partisan issue. I think you have an equal mix of Republicans and Democrats on both sides of this issue.

I think the Goveror of one of these States should formerly request Federal action from the President. Ike didn't have any problem sending the Airborn into AL in 57.

A first step would be to deploy USCG troops and airborn survalience on the border as I believe he could without worrying about DOD deployment on US soil.

Back them up with a USMC "FAST" action response group like we have had at GITMO for years that will hold the Mexican Army there till our AIrborn drops behind them if they "wander over".

Wouln't hurt to have a BN of infantry for show on stage..

The sad part is the fact that the democrats are just as much at fault but they won't be the ones to take a fall.

You're darn right. If Hillary become President, she will have all those illegal Mexican votes to get her there. Illegals are not dumb; they understand that Democrats will steal the tax payers blind to accommodate them and their numerous family members. So will George Bush, but he has only three years left while Hillary may have a lifetime appointment, as the country will no longer be a Republic by then, but will become more like a banana republic.

You got it.... Why spend a ton of money defending the border? (step 1) Just make it virtually imposable for illegals to survive here.

At this point I am starting to agree with some that think either Fox has something on Bush or Bush just doesn't care about America and our people as much as he cares about Globalism. In any case this alone will be his undoing as well as any and all politicians who support illegal-immigration.

For those that hold out a slim hope that he will change his mind, you will be holding out for eternity because it isn't going to happen. And Bush's legacy will be Impeachment when an attack happens here again and it can be proven the attackers used our open borders.

I voted for Pat Buchanan in 2000 and was scared straight by our near miss with Al Gore. I like Tom Tancredo but I don't think he has a chance. Look at the way some freepers adopt democrat tactics to attack Tancredo with the race card etc.

Voting against the republicans will only serve to elect Hillary Clinton who the democrats will follow blindly and few republicans will have the cajones to oppose her. Personally I suspect that many republican congressmen will simply fall on their knees and worship Hillary as well.

No it's not. I refuse to choose between 2 hole drillers.

I agree, the idea that the Republicans are saving us from the Democrats is a fallacy, since the Republicans have actually been more pro-active on letting illegals into the country lately

And, pray, tell me, what are the Republicans really "doing" to advance the conservative agenda???

We're being taken for a ride just as blacks are being takend for a ride in the Democrat Party. The Republcians believe that, no matter what, we'll hold our nose and vote for them because they are the "lesser of two evils".

Well, no more. I will not sit here and let you "lock-step" Republicans tell me I'm going to ruin the country if I don't vote Republcian any more. The conservative agenda is NOT being served by either party, and I will no longer roll over and hope and pray that the Republicans will do the right thing.

If the Republican party really stands for what is in it's platform then it needs to perform. We here in "real" Amercia fought hard to get and keep the majorities we now have. I expect my elected officals to fight just as hard.

I would think that by now the Republicans would have realized that even if they adopted the entire Communist Manifesto they would be ripped by the Democrats and the press. It's time for them to adopt the attitude of a great American who, when faced with certain defeat, was quoted as saying "D-mn the torpedoes - full speed ahead!"

The Illegals set up business's up here in CT and underbid everyone else. Meanwhile they don't pay Taxes, Insurance, Workmen's Comp., Fair Wages, etc they drive American Contractors out of Business. Meanwhile if one of their family members get sick or hurt they use Medicare, Food Stamps, Welfare, and all social services they can get.

There is no political will or huge outcry from the populace to do any of those things you listed. Without at least one of those nothing will get done.

The only way any action will take place on this issue is to go to the courts. Here's an interesting idea which some municipalities are trying:
RICO lawsuits
