My Battle with the Thought Police

By Hans-Hermann Hoppe

Mises Media

April 14, 2005

Readers of [Mises Economics Blog] probably know about my ordeal at my university, which has been covered quite extensively on this site and by the major mainstream press. Now that major combat operations have ended (to employ a phrase used by Bush in reference to Iraq...two years ago), I've had some time to reflect on what happened, why, and whether and to what extent I responded properly.

And so here are my thoughts on this incident that took my career as a professor of economics in a direction I would never have anticipated. Now that the case is more-or-less settled, I no longer feel bound by legal considerations to keep silent on important details. This article is the first to disclose the full details of the case.

Las Vegas prides itself for its tolerance and so does UNLV, its university. At the university, however, tolerance is selective. You may assert that white heterosexual males are responsible for all of mankind’s misery, that Castro’s Cuba is a great success story, that capitalism means exploitation, or that most university professors are liberals because conservatives are too stupid to teach. If anyone should complain about this, such complaint will be dismissed outright.

And rightly so. After all, the university is committed to academic freedom.

"If I made one mistake, it was that I was too cooperative and waited too long to go on the offensive."

Exactly so - and I'm glad he finally prevailed!

The liberals claim that they are the champions of free thought, free speech, and free inquiry. Facts prove otherwise. You are permitted to express your thoughts as long as they agree with the liberal kempei-tai or thought police. I'm sure libs will appreciate the supreme irony that they have become the dogmatic fanatics they invariably accuse conservatives of being. If they could only see it. Their blindness to reality prevents them from doing so.

On Hannity and Colmes last night there was a rabid secularist, anti-Christian jackmonkey who could not tolerate the idea of the Cross being anywhere in a Public /official facility.

This guy belongs in the USSR.

I heard a guy on talk show say Castro has imprisoned a higher % of his people than either Stalin or Hitler did. The libs are sooooo proud of this pig.

This is not about free speech or academic freedom.

It is about who the boss will be.

It is a power struggle undertaken to put concervitives in their place.

From way down in the sourced story:

Two months later, at the end of January 2005 the code officer called my lawyer to inform him that the "peer" committee had affirmed the first committee’s "hostile environment" finding and would recommend to the provost a letter of reprimand and forfeiture of my next merit increase. There might be a little room for negotiation, but if I didn’t accept the offer even more serious punishment up to termination might be in the offing. My lawyer’s request to see the report was denied.

I rejected the offer and having until then been placed under a gag order, finally started a counteroffensive. I was put in contact with the ACLU Nevada, and though our political views are poles apart, the ACLU to its eternal credit was principled enough to take on my "rightist" professor’s case. In addition, a prominent local attorney volunteered his services, and within a few days the Mises Institute’s public relations machinery began its work on my behalf.

First, the ACLU sent a "letter of demand," requesting an immediate end to the charade or the university would be taken to court, then local news stories about the case appeared, and protest letters and angry calls began to pour in to the university.

Say what a lot we Freepers will, regarding a) lawyers, and b) the reviled ACLU... this is certainly a case of freedom to cast scorn, up until one really needs an attorney or the ACLU! At that point, all is forgiven and "Hey Buddy, can you help me out here?"

Liberals believe that Freedom of Speech means that they can parade nude down public streets and have old men meet in public libraries to discuss how best to rape little boys.

These things actually happen in San Francisco.

Liberals also believe that Tolerance means that homosexuality, bestiality, drug addiction, sexual depravity and etc. etc. cannot be called "abnormal".

But it is perfectly fine to spew unfettered filth and hatred upon Christians, observant Jews, Caucasians in general, Caucasian men especially, conservatives, non-Communist revolutionaries, and virtually anyone who dares to speak a self evident truth such as:

Homosexuals are the primary demographic group putting live gerbils up their anuses. They call it "felching", by the way.

Ever wonder why a lot of homosexuals shave their heads? Because it is easier to clean the feces from their hair if they have none. They roll in each other's feces for a sexual thrill and call it "scatting".

Bet you won't look at shaved-headed queers the same way anymore.

Homosexuals deliberately engage in a promiscuous form of sex called 'bareback' sex in which they are often knowingly exposed to hepatitis A, B, and C and they are also exposed to venereal diseases not the least of which is AIDS. 100% of the infections acquired from these practices are preventable yet your tax dollars should be used to subsidize their perversions lest you be called 'hateful'.

If heterosexuals engaged in these perversions we'd lock them up as a danger to the community and to themselves.

But it is "hateful" to criticize homosexuals for their obviously sickening, depraved, and self-destructive behaviors.

Truth is politically incorrect in any totalitarian state.

Guess what America is becoming?
