HOUSTON (AP) -- The National Rifle Association is holding its annual convention this weekend in Houston.
The event is expected to draw about 60,000 people including Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who will be the convention's keynote speaker tomorrow.
There's a session tomorrow called "God, Guns and Rock-n-Roll," featuring rock star Ted Nugent.
The NRA's executive vice president says the location for the convention is a good one because, "It's the heartland of the country." He says, "They love us."
A spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence says the NRA's success is because they "have a ton of money and they do a very good job with their propaganda."
The NRA's national membership stands at about about 4 million people, which is an all-time high.

This thread has just added to the FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".
Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it.

Anyone from outside the US showing up there? Maybe they need to give better endorsements to the Canadian politicians to help throw the Fiberal bums and their $2 billion failed gun registry out?
To: areafiftyone
I bet there will be no pies thrown at the speakers at this meeting.

NOR ARE ANY GUNS TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE FACILITY. Just a little bit of irony there...

Heh. With DeLay on the ticket it's hard for them to bitch. And it actually makes sense, Rudy as the executive and DeLay as prez of the Senate.

What really sucks is the Saxet gun show is in Austin this weekend and my wife and I just got our first tax refund ever (I was laid off for half of last year). But I so-o-o-o want to see Nugent and shake DeLay's hand. Decisions, decisions.

Houston is only 3-4 hours from Austin. Do the NRA convention on Sat. and the gun show on Sun.
To: areafiftyone
The NRA should invite that gun-toting granny who blew away the robber in her convenience store! She should be their new poster gal!

Eh... my darling wife gave me a kitchen pass for Saxet, but I think I'd be pushing it to get the whole day to go from Austin to Houston.
Especially since I plan on coming home with a toy or two from the gun show.

I think if it came down to a Hillary vs. Rudy contest the inflexible Conservatives will see the light: he's very electable.
