SEATTLE -- Mary Kay Letourneau and her former sixth-grade pupil, the father of her two youngest children, apparently are not marrying this weekend as their bridal registry had indicated.
Letourneau, 43, served 7 1/2 years in prison after she was convicted of raping Vili Fualaau, now 22.
The couple's bridal registry at Macy's listed the wedding date as April 16, but attorney David Gherke, who represented Letourneau at her child-rape trial, said no wedding was planned this weekend.
"I don't think they've set a date," he said Friday.
King County had no record of a marriage license for them or an application for one. Under state law, the license must be acquired at least three days before the wedding.
Still, this couple is not known for going by the book.
Letourneau was 34 and a married mother of four when she began a sexual relationship with the then-12-year-old Fualaau after they met at Burien's Shorewood Elementary School. She taught him in second and sixth grade.
She was pregnant with Fualaau's first child when she was arrested in 1997 and ordered to serve a six-month sentence for second-degree child rape.
A month after she was released, Letourneau was caught having sex with Fualaau in her car. She pleaded guilty in 1997 to two charges of child rape, and gave birth to the couple's second daughter while serving her 7 1/2-year sentence.
Shortly after Letourneau's release from prison last August, the couple successfully petitioned a King County judge to lift a no-contact order that had barred them from seeing each other.
In February, Fualaau agent Nick Soriano said they became engaged when Fualaau proposed last fall, but had been trying to keep wedding details a secret.
Soriano could not be reached for comment Friday on the question of timing.
The wedding will likely be held in a Seattle-area church with 200 guests, Soriano said earlier this year. Initial plans called for their daughters to be flower girls and Fualaau's nephew to be a ring bearer, he said.
Neither Letourneau nor Fualaau could be reached for comment
I wonder if Fualaau considers himself a "victim."
So did they register at Macy's just to get some presents?
we should send some discount psychotherapy coupons.
As I recall, she is Catholic. Wonder if she got her first marriage annulled so she and the kid could start out with a clean slate?
Darn. What am I going to do with all this birdseed?
Two things...
1) How in the world does this nonsense get into a church?
2) I knew I hated Seattle for more than just Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, et al. (Grunge in general) and whatever other drech came out of there.
I feel kinda weird looking at the bedding they are asking for on that registry!
"I now pronounce you victim and wife."
They should have to pay back all the settlement money they won.
Did they register at Toys R Us?
ROFL
I wonder if A&E and Lifetime will provide live coverage.
how many high school male teachers marry the girls they get pregnant?
"Pssssssst....hey...,you with the seeds ?"
Nevermind ...
Looks like also she registered here:
