PRINCETON, NJ -- With National Rifle Association members now gathered in Houston for the NRA's 134th annual meeting, a recent Gallup Poll finds that public opinion of the nation's leading pro-gun lobby is fairly positive. Six in 10 Americans say they view the organization favorably, while about a third of Americans view it unfavorably.
Despite this positive tilt, favorable opinions of the NRA are relatively soft. Only 18% view the NRA "very" favorably, while an almost equal number, 15%, view it "very" unfavorably. People with a less intense feeling split 42% favorably to 19% unfavorably.
Positive ratings of the NRA are a bit more prevalent today than when previously measured, but that could be attributed to the fact that the NRA image question in the latest survey was preceded by a new series of questions about gun use. These questions may have enhanced the NRA's ratings by focusing respondents first on the self-defense aspect of guns.
In particular, Gallup found that 62% of Americans believe arming pilots with guns would make airplanes safer; only a third believe armed pilots would make planes more dangerous. Americans are more divided on the effect of arming judges in courtrooms, with 50% saying the measure would make courtrooms more dangerous versus 43% who say it would make the courts safer. Americans mostly agree, however, that arming school officials would make schools more dangerous (73%).

Gallup Ping
FReepmail me if you want to be on or off the list.
This will drive the liberals up the wall.
BTTT
See michael moore was right!!! His movies 'helped' John Kerry by villifying an organization almost 2/3rds of Americans view favorably. /sarcasm
That being said, even using your negative numbers I see it as only a 34% total unfavorable, which results in 66% favorable
So read that and weep Di-Fi and Brady Bunch - you're passe
(excuse the french)
ROFLOL !!! - I missed that !!!
Seeing as how most of these MSM polls are hoplessly skewed leftward, the NRA is rated closer to "beloved" by most Americans :-)
I's love to see this kind of poll on the ACLU!
I would like to hear some of those in that 50% explain how allowing a judge to have a gun in his or her courtroom would make it more dangerous.
I will admit that many judges are very, very dangerous people. But the danger is to our Constitutional rights and to our traditional American culture, not to our bodies by way of gunshot wounds.
Yup

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they say this, but why can't they do it on the other side too? (Shivo polls)
29% of Liberals own a gun and 38% of Liberals have a favorable opinion of the NRA. lol - thats a bit surprising.
6% had no opinion.
Not sure I would trust school officials with guns either. Morons.
The info that was most disappointing was that most were against guns in judges' and school officials' hands. As if we didn't have primo evidence that it'd have been a plus in the last few months.
I would have appreciated it if they had actually ASKED these folks if they knew what the NRA WAS. I bet those numbers would be far lower. I wish we could force the pollsters to ask qualifying questions to find out just how many of these folks 1) vote and 2) know WTF they are polling about before the pollster gets into deeper questions.
This has to enrage the democrats. I love this.
