Presidents Team Growing Frustrated by Majority Leaders Inability to Defend Himself

Check out this blind quote from Karen Tumulty's news filled article in Time Magazine. (registration required)

'The Presidents team is increasingly frustrated by the majority leaders inability to mount a defense more persuasive than blaming his problems on a liberal conspiracy.'

DeLay, says a senior Adminstration offical, 'Is handing this like an idiot.'

House Speaker Hastert faces pressure from within the Republican ranks to end the impaase with Democrats over ethics rules changes pushed through on a partisan vote in January, reports David Rodgers in the Wall St. Journal.

'Mr. Hastert shows no willingness to reverse himself but compromises are being dicussed. Privately, Republicans say the rules are a greater political worry for the party than the ethics questions on DeLay.'

'As a practical matter, Mr. DeLay's problems will persist until the impasse is resolved, since the Democrats are blocking the Ethics Committee from giving the Texas Republican a heading and a chance to clear himself.'

So the Dims want him to step down without a hearing that they themselves are holding up?

A republican cannot defend himself in the Stalinist media we have; why bother?

Just ignore them, do you job as if they do not exist, and they go away, eventually.

The liberal media is now hinting the President wants to get of Tom DeLay. Its no longer a Democratic drive - its said to be a wish of President Bush. We'll see if the White House denies The Note account.

If I was advising Tom on media strategy, I would get him on Rush ASAP.

And so begins phase II of the smear campaign....quote un-named "Republican sources" to make it look like there are conservatives against Delay as well so as to get his base thinking maybe there is something afoot.

Classic. It'll still fail though.

Exactly. Why all the handwringing by the jellyfish Republicans? Why are Republicans so consumed by what the media says? Heck, Bill Clinton actually did something wrong and he just smiled, said he was getting back to the work of the American people (ha!) and pressed on.

For crying out loud, get over with it. Stop worrying about the NY or LA Times.

Is Bernie Sanders going to get this kind of a media rectal exam for his hearing on the same trumped up 'charges?'

How about a compromise deal? DeLay will resign his seat if every politician in D.C. who has done any of the things he's accused of resigns theirs.

This just means DeLay is doing a good job- Look what they did to Newt Gingrich because a low-level CLERK made a mistake in one fact in a 400 page document prepared BY HIS OFFICE (not him personally)- They went all up and down how GINGRICH LIED

The MSM is trying to do a Trent Lott move on DeLay here.

I don't see him even considering giving up leadership status to these clowns.

The problem here is not with Delay. The problem is with the gutless wimps who run the Republican Party at the national level. Even with control of the Presidency, and both Houses, they are totally ineffective and craven. Even with a national mandate, they kowtow to the Dems.

Once again, as with Lott and Gingrich, these spineless capons are willing to toss one of their number to the liberal wolves in order to placate the leftist media.

What a contrast with the Dems who close ranks behind and support an impeached perjurer, sexual predator and traitor.

We need a third party. A really effective alternative to the International Socialist Dems.

I would concur with getting on Rush, Hannity, and Laura.

Maybe an interview with NRO.

But ignore the MSM.

The MSM would be forced to quote these more reliable sources.

That is right up there with Katie Couric's favorite mantra:

"There are those who say...Wouldn't you agree."

or

"Some say...Wouldn't you agree."

I would definitely get him out there with Hannity in prime time. And Laura Ingraham wouldn't hurt either!
