LOL, I've never compared a glass of beer to a glass of cat piss. Then again, what do I know....I ate rat thinking it was goat.
argh...
Well, Tsingtao says it's pronounced "Ching-Dow" on their website, for what it's worth.
I'm happy they do. My favorite Chinese food is spicy beef noodles (Hong San Niu Row Mien... forgive my pinyin). Yum Yum. Now if only I knew a place around here that served it. I need to explore around Chinatown one of these days.
I agree. Yuengling is the best ;)
Not worth much considering that isn't even realtive to the
"PinYin" spelling.
If you know how to type in Chinese on your computer, try typing that and see how far it gets you.
Me too, I also love the HAKKA style beef noodles...hmmmmm heavenly
I have a few as well. One of them is know-it-alls ripping people who clearly qualified their post. Nothing personal either.
"Qing Dao" and "Ching-Dow" would be pronounced the same actually. The pin yin is spelled "Qing Dao", the actual pronouciation to English speakers sounds like "Ching-Dow", which probably confuses people more.
Maybe these little people should just learn how to spell their language in latin properly and we wouldn't have these debates :)
Mmmmm... Tiger Beer! Consumed mass quantites while in Singapore.
Drank mostly Tsingtao in Tianjin and Shanghai, until I finally found an Irish Pub in Beijing with Tiger on tap. Yum!
I usually like to try beers from other countries when I eat at those types of restaurants. I pronounce Tsingtao "formaldehyde".
Huh? If they're instructing Americans how to pronounce it phonetically, what does "typing Chinese into your computer" have to do with how it should be pronounced?
Tsing Tao is the older Wade-Giles rominization of the characters. Taiwan still uses Wade-Giles and would romanize it this way. You are both right.
German is correct. It seemed to me that the British were yearning for a more European tasting brew when they were in Hong Kong. The Chinese person who told me the story when he introduced me to it a decade ago was clearly incorrect.
My other one is thos who make public postings, but don't like being corrected when they are wrong.
If you don't like being corrected, then don't post your errors publically.
Pretty simple.
Yes, I drank lots of TIGER beer in Malaysia. Very popular. Great stuff
Met the Dutch brewmaster. Seems the brewer, ANCHOR BEER was origially set up by the DUTCH Heineken
*those
Yup, I checked with my friend again, yes, it was the Germans
I hear they're opening a brewery in south Taiwan.
What drives me nuts is the outrageous pricing of beer in Shanghai restaurants and bars. I refuse to pay $5 for a friggin Tiger beer, when I can go right around the corner to the corner 24 store and get a 20 ouncer for 3 Yuan (36 cents). As it is, I get my drinks for free, since I go to the Irish pubs - where Guinness is a whopping $8 per - with guitfiddle in hand - and get my drinks for free. With a few Suntories in my backpack to boot. Don't tell anybody though.
