4 Indicted in Italian Financier's Death (Calvi, Vatican Bank Scandal)

ROME - Four people were indicted Monday on murder charges in the death of Italian financier Roberto Calvi, a banker with close ties to the Vatican who was found hanging under a bridge in London in 1982, a defense attorney said.

Businessman Flavio Carboni; his ex-girlfriend Manuela Kleinszig, and two men with alleged ties to the Mafia, Giuseppe "Pippo" Calo and Ernesto Diotallevi, will stand trial in October, according to Carboni's lawyer.

Calvi was dubbed "God's banker" because of his ties with the Vatican's bank and its former top official, the American Archbishop Paul C. Marcinkus.

Calvi's body was found under a bridge in London on June 18, 1982, his suit pockets stuffed with rocks and bricks, along with a falsified passport and thousands of dollars worth of various currencies, authorities said.

The discovery came days after the collapse of Banco Ambrosiano, where he was president and in which the Vatican's bank held a significant stake. The collapse was Italy's biggest postwar banking scandal.

Renato Borzone, the lawyer representing Carboni, rejected the prosecution's allegations.

"The defense maintains that — based on medical examinations — Calvi committed suicide and was not murdered," Borzone said. "There are elements favorable to the defense as well as the prosecution. There are things that have to be clarified."

Carboni was a friend of Calvi's and one of the last people known to have seen to the banker alive.

Prosecutors and court officials were not immediately available for comment.

Banco Ambrosiano fell apart following the disappearance of $1.3 billion. The Vatican's bank agreed to pay $250 million to the Italian bank's creditors, but denied any wrongdoing. Marcinkus also denied wrongdoing.

In July 2003, Italian prosecutors issued a report concluding that Calvi did not commit suicide, but was killed.

British police announced in 2003 that they had begun a murder inquiry into Calvi's death after a detailed review of the case.

In December 2003, a 42-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to pervert the course of justice, and of perjury.

Very odd. 20 years after the fact to start serving indictments. Must have taken forever to get the evidence.

"Very odd."

How about filing the charges at the time the Cardinals sequestered themselves?

Does look ill timed. If they just got the info and the court orders to act on it that is one thing. But it does kind of look like a try to smear someone, maybe someone in the Sistine Chapel right now.

The attack on PJP II may have been a hot job not related to the Soviets?

The attack on PJP II may have been a hit job not related to the Soviets?< P> I always wondered that myself. P2 is PURE EVIL.

The thing I love is the fact that the LEFT often takes up the case of John Paul I, even though he was a conservative allied with the Opus Dei.

I don't know what your comment means, Clemenza. This is what I mean:

Vatican's banker 'was murdered'

A top financier found hanging from a bridge in London 20 years ago was murdered, forensic experts appointed by judges in Rome to investigate the death have reportedly said.

Calvi was a member of the secret right-wing P2 Masonic lodge and was also linked to the Sicilian mafia.

In recent years more evidence has come to light, suggesting Calvi was murdered by the mafia to stop him divulging damaging details about links between the mafia, the Vatican and P2.

http://gangstersinc.tripod.com/PupBulgaria.html

Ali Agca

In 1979 killed Mehmet Ali Agca the chiefredactor Abdi Ipekci of the turkish newspaper Millivet and went to prison, he escaped with the help of the mafiaboss Ugurlu. After his escape Agca travelled through Europe and arrived in Bulgaria where he was watched over by Celenk and became friends with the weapondealer Omer Mersan who introduced him to the bulgarian Mustafa Eof a member of the Bulgarian secret service. Abdullah Catli is accused of having organized the escape from prison and flight to Europe of Mehmet Ali Agça, the man held responsible for the murder of the editor of the liberal daily paper Milliyet.

Attack on the Pope

13 May 1981 the Grey Wolves Mehmed Ali Agca and Omar Ay shoot the Pope John Paul who got severely wounded, Agca was arrested and Ay escaped. They had gotten the order from their boss Oral Celik who did it for the Grey Wolves boss Abdullah Catli who probably ordered the hit for the Bulgarian secret service who possibly did it for the Polish secret service. Also had to do with the ambush the men Sedat Sirri kadem, Omer Bagci, Sedar Cerlebi, Abdullah Catli, Mehemet Sener, Ferid Akhurzu. The states witness in the case is the Grey Wolf Yalcin Ozbey. Catli was also reportedly the person who, at the request of Turkish mafia chief Bekir Celenk, organised the assassination attempt on the Pope, in exchange for the sum of 3 million German mark for his gang.

-------------

Another reason to think something weird was involved in the Pope's assassination was that the Turk seemed programed and knew of Fatima - as a street hood and a Muslim it is doubtful he knew this through his own studies - since he never was educated. The assassination of the Pope was on the anniversary of Fatima - as if it was planned that way - as if the planners knew the unrevealed last portion involving the killing of the Pope. An occult significance to an assassination? (either because the killers are superstitious or use the religious event as a way to hide their link).

I think the mafia theory follows two paths - this Pope was either "pressing in" or was not willing to allow the relationship to continue. The death of the banker just plugged a hole - but the Mafia still wanted to maintain its old banking relationship with the Vatican bank. What roles did the Mafia play in relation to the Bulgarian/Polish/East German secret police? As you can see from the Bulgarian link I provided, no mention of the Soviet KGB. The KGB is not so brazen as to carry out a hit out in the open. The Soviet KGB maintained a policy of silent killings. The "hit" on the Pope was probably done at the request of the panicky Polish Communist regime independent of the KGB.

The Poles arrange this via Bulgaria because Bulgaria was a hot bed of criminal heroin trade activity carried out by her own secret agents in partnership with the Turks who were working for the Italian Mafia. Bulgarians talk to the Turks - the Turks talk to the Mafia - they need a way to get into Italy and a safe house. The mafia facilitates the hit for the Turks because it would benefit them. The Mafia contacts their contacts in the P2 lodge. The lodge knows the Fatima message and suggests it as the time the hit should be carried out.

A public hit on a significant day would send a warning to those in the know but be meaningless to the rest of the public. In this case the Vatican would know that those in the inner circles carried out the hit (who else would know of the final Fatima message but those in high places?) but they would not know who exactly.

An attack on such a day would also divert the investigation - people would get wrapped up in Fatima and ignore the other leads.

So the Poles contract the hit? - the mafia carried it out? For the Poles but also for their own reasons.

Anyway the clue to this is the Turk knew about Fatima - which means Fatima was used to program/condition him for the job. He was told to use that as his cover - so he would seem a crazed fanatic - it would also hide secret agent and mafia activity but point the direction at an inside hit - the mafia wants everyone to know it's a hit but not to be directly linked to them.

Something like that anyway.
