CHICAGO (CNS) -- Before the cardinals locked into the Sistine Chapel had a chance to cast their first ballot April 18, a group protesting the lack of women's voices in the conclave gathered outside Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago to send up billows of bright pink smoke along with prayers for women to be heard. The event featured statements from several organizations supporting the ordination of women that called on the church to open its doors fully to women's participation. "At a time when young women are sold into slavery around the world, when war brings the rape of women, when it is women and children who suffer in poverty on earth and organized religions keep women in bondage celebrating the language of a male God, we know we cannot keep the silence demanded by male leadership in a church that claims to speak out for human rights," said Dominican Sister Donna Quinn, a member of the National Coalition of American Nuns.

When a "Sister" spews this type of nonsense, is it a sin? Is participating in activities that directly conflict with the church a sin? What is the difference between advocating for this or advocating to be able to take a husband?
I'm not Catholic, so clearly I am not able to answer these questions. Any of you Catholic Freepers care to enlighten me?

I think the church has been too PC in accomodating politicians. Perhaps a few excommunications will clarify what the church stands for.

Considering the make-up of many of the priests in the Chicago Archdiocese, I'd say that effeminacy has plenty of voices there, if not women per se. It's a wonder they weren't sending up lavender smoke.
Don't forget, when Cardinal Bernadin passed away, the Chicago Gay Men's Choir sang at his funeral mass...

I recall a column by George Will when JPII first visited America. A nun was asking the Pope about women priests, the Pope said it wasn't gonna happen, the usual suspects got up on their hind legs and took the Pope to task for not being "inclusive". Goerge Will answered them and at the end he wrote (if memory serves) "WHO does he (JPII) think he is! He thinks he's the Pope...and he's right."

Exactly.
This "modern moralism" of the world is not of God, but of man. It is the humanist theology, not the teaching of the Bible, and is contrary to Church theology.
I think these apostates would be more comfortable in their own denomination.

If the smoke is white, there's a new Pope tonight.
If the smoke is black, Cardinals gotta go back.
If the smoke is pink, I don't know what to think.
If the smoke is yellow, the Conclave's turning mellow.
If the smoke is red, there's litte to be said.
If the smoke is green, no progress to be seen.
If the smoke is purple, sugar is sweet.
If the smoke is orange, so's maple surple.

Me too. When are women going to embrace their roles as women? I am not Catholic but at my church men are in leadership roles, women do participate in ministries. I can't imagine a women protesting in this manner. I would give a pamphlet to an "alternative church" that is more cohesive with her theology....LOL.
I have some smoke of my own to send in Sister's general direction.....

You uppity women I dont understand
Why you gotta go and try to act like a man,
But before you make your weekly visit to the shrink
Youd better occupy the kitchen, liberate the sink.
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed
Thats what I to my baby said,
Womens liberation is a-going to your head,
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed.
Early every morning youre out on the street
Passing out pamphlets to everyone you meet.
You gave up your maiden form for lent
And now the front of your dress has an air scoop vent.
Every single brakeman thats ever come along
Had a little woman always tellin him that hes wrong.
Eve said to adam, ¡°heres an apple you horse¡±
And delilah defoliated samsons moss.
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed
Thats what I to my baby said,
Womens liberation is a-going to your head,
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed.
Mean-hearted harpies are breaking all the laws
Tearing up their girdles and a-burning up their bras,
Now the air is dirty and the sex is clean
And your coffee makes my hair turn green.
So damn emancipated in your mind and your body,
Gonna have to cancel all your lessons in karate.
If you cant love a male chauvinist
Youd better cross me off your shopping list.

At a time when young women are sold into slavery around the world, when war brings the rape of women, when it is women and children who suffer in poverty on earth... I guess there are no men in the world who suffer in poverty. We're all rich millionaire types.
and organized religions keep women in bondage celebrating the language of a male God, we know we cannot keep the silence demanded by male leadership in a church that claims to speak out for human rights," said Dominican Sister Donna Quinn, a member of the National Coalition of American Nuns.
I think that Sister Donna needs to quit praying so much, and start reading her Bible ALOT more. She's spending so much time talking to God she's not listening to what he's saying in his word. There's a big difference in "organized" religions out there. She needs to know which one she belongs to.
For one, if she read her Bible she would know that the true Christianity doesn't enslave anybody, male or female.
Secondly, the Apostle Paul mentions that men are to govern the church and home. He also tells what the role of women are. And with that he tells them all what type of attitude they should have while they serve each other in their God appointed roles.
If Sister Donna or any other woman (or man for that matter) has a problem of what the roles for women and men are in the church (or the home) the should bring it before God, he's the author (and the authority)

How did a pro-abortion, lesbian, anti-Catholic, hermaphrodite get accepted into the religious order of the Catholic Church?
Nobody noticed she had an agenda? You know we CAN still excommunicate people....we need to purge the ranks of wicca worshipers professing secular humanism, NOW!
