I remember a temp job I worked over 15 years ago. The site manager half-jokingly identified me to a group of his fellow managers as "his personal slave". Now, I'm not African-American, so my ability to sue might have been limited, but wow...if a book designed to help an employee is considered so insulting it's worth over half a million, maybe I should have lawyered up (joking).
Sometimes, the truth is politically incorrect. And, unfortunately, somebody seems always ready to GIT PAID!
I called out sick from work one day and a fellow co-worker, who was visibly non-Irish, asked me if I had "the Irish Flu".
See, I can handle such comments, but realistically, is this not racist and should I not take appropriate action?
One of Molloy's books also advised white women who deal with black customers not to wear 1950s-style clothes (that decade was "inspiring" designers about the time he wrote his book) , lest the customer's infer from that 'fifties-style' attitudes on race relations. If that advice is still in the book, I wonder if white female employees who love vintage or retro clothing could sue?
I am seriously waiting to hear about ugly people sueing for discrimination. They dont move up the ladder near as quick as beautiful people. They dont get to be in movies and TV. I think they have a good case.
"This is the most egregious case of published documentation on stereotyping and bias toward race, gender and religion in the workplace the commissioners have seen in a long time," commission Chairman Stephen A. Glassman said.
The First Amendment says that you do not have the right to "not be insulted." This lawsuit like other harrassment lawsuits is for insulting non-'white males'. The right to offend verbally(or in writing) is no longer protected for white males, but it is for everyone else based on a racial hierarchy. For example, when I got sent to sensitivity class, I was offended when they pointing out that white males were the problem. But the right to insult the white male, who is the bottom of the racial hierarchy, is still protected by the Bill of Rights. That is why Ward Churchhill cannot be fired, He pushed himself to the top by claiming his Grandmom was a AI.
The same modification was done to the 14th Amendment and discrimination. It's legal based on the hierarchy.
There is a good example of this in Animal Farm. 'All Animals are equal' was amended with 'but some are more equal than Others'.
But it would have been OK if he wore cut-off jeans and had facial piercings, as some whites do.
DC's way ahead of you. It's illegal to discriminate based on physical appearance here.
And it's more complicated than race. It's sex, disability and even sexual activity. Now, all those things add to the person's constitutional rights. How are they added? By the judicial-king-gods that rule us of course.
I have always wondered how the roles of really ugly or homely people are cast in movies, TV shows, magazine spreads, etc. I mean, except for Charlize Theron being made to look hideous in that Monster movie, what do the casting calls look like? "NEEDED: SNAGGLE-TOOTHED, BUG-EYED, WRINKLY, MORBIDLY FAT, MOLE-RIDDEN CHARACTERS FOR POSSIBLE SPEAKING ROLE IN UPCOMING FILM. SKIN TAGS, SEVERE FRECKLES, DUMBO EARS PAY EXTRA!"???
My culture requires me to wear a t-shirt and jeans with a loaded .45 on my hip at all times. C'mon, you employers, just try to discriminate against me.

"Um, okay......"
Hey, if he's allowed to wear tribal clothes to work, so can I. Anyone have a spare Claymore?
ROFL! I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't already one - the FUAG - Fat & Ugly Actor's Guild. Of course, anyone with decent looks but low self-esteem would be suing for discrimination if they weren't admitted. Others with high self-esteem who're butt ugly would sue if they were told they should sign up there.
They should also put in that book "No white guys who think they are black and go yo yo yo"
