Spokeswoman says Dean won't run for Senate (Vermont)

MONTPELIER, Vt. Howard Dean isn't interested. A spokeswoman says Dean won't be running for the Senate seat that is opening up from Vermont -- now that independent Jim Jeffords won't be running for re-election next year.

Jeffords is the one who briefly gave control of the Senate to Democrats when he left the G-O-P and became an independent four years ago. Sources told the A-P this morning that Jeffords was preparing to make the announcement that he's retiring at the end of his term.

Dean had long been rumored as a possible candidate. But the former governor and presidential candidate now heads the Democratic National Committee -- and a spokeswoman says he's committed to carrying out his new responsibilities there.

Looks like the socialist Bernie Sanders will run for the Democratic side.

Wouldn't it be nice if the GOP could pick up a seat here. Then again, it is Vermont, thus at best it would be another RINO.

Briefly? That makes it sound like a few weeks. It was a year and a half of President Bush's first two years in office. ....first the locked transition office, then McCain hogging the floor over the phony campaign finance issue, then Jeffords handing over the Senate. It's amazing that President Bush was able to do anything in his first year in office.

Truthfully, I'd rather a left-winger just win the seat than we get another worthless, fake Republican Senator. We have more than enough of those in there right now as it is.
