Errant SUV Crashes Into House
The Orlando Sentinel ^ | April 20, 2005 | Susan Jacobson

Poinciana -- Joseph Gillett, 4, was watching TV on his family's sofa Monday night when a sport utility vehicle driven by an 11-year-old neighbor catapulted into Joseph's living room and bashed into the couch, throwing him across the room and into the kitchen, authorities and his family said.

Although the living room was littered with car parts, broken glass, bent miniblinds and other debris, Joseph emerged unscathed, his mother, Gina Gillett, said Tuesday.

"Yes, I'm OK," Joseph said as he played in the front yard.

Gillett had been folding laundry on the living-room floor, but she had gone into the kitchen to help her husband, also named Joseph, make dinner just before the 8:22 p.m. crash, she said.

"I hear like a big bang," said Gillett, 26, who cut her foot on broken glass and was the only person injured as a result of the crash. "I'm like, oh my goodness. I thought, is the world exploding?"

Gillett's 2-year-old son, Stephen, was in his room and was not hurt even though the force of the impact caused a VCR and a TV he was watching to topple onto the floor, his mother said.

There was initial confusion about who was in the SUV, which the driver's mother described as a Mazda Tribute. She would not give her name to a reporter Tuesday. Public records show Penny C. White owns the house.

The 11-year-old and her 14-year-old brother told rescue workers that their 2-year-old brother turned the ignition and switched the SUV into gear, said Glen Moore, acting Osceola County Fire Rescue battalion chief.

That does it...we need new laws to keep SUVs out of the hands of children.

Alittle mentoring at a young age and you could avoid errancy when grown up. Just ask Rush!

Are we sure the SUV was errant? I think it was a part of a vast conspiracy. The SUVs are taking part in the rise of the machines!!!

The nefarious SUV convinced those innocent children to join in it's evil frenzy of violence. When will this madness end?

I'm like happy the kid is like unhurt, but like this SUV has tasted blood and it will never be like the same. I'm like it should be put down.

I have a good SUV. It refrains from the death and destruction its counterparts enjoy. It also sports a sticker in the back window proclaiming that "Michael Moore thinks you're stupid!"

"ooh...maybe that's what I'll name my next band..."Yugo Suicide"!"

"Terminal Smugness" might work too. Or, "Cute Little Death Cars" maybe (in honor of Deathcab For Cutie).
