Sorry, but any energy plan that relies heavily on alternative fuels is just more rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Hastert and other GOP Congressional critters are merely supporting the same energy status-quo that doesn't focus on increasing production.

He might as well have just re-read Carter's malaise speech....

The United States has the world's largest coal reserves. Alberta, Canada and in parts of NW Canada there are oil reserves that rival those of the Middle East. There are also oil reserves off the coast of CA and Gulf of Mexico.

These people in Washington truly need to be flushed out due to their extreme stupidity and malfeasance.

If it just was a substitute for lead in gasoline it would be okay, and if it was really just a way to use up "surplus" corn, other than making burbom of course it would be okay.

But corn is being grown to make ethanol, and the process is a net energy loser. The farmers get subsidies for growing and selling the corn, and make big contributions with some of the money and the contributions go to the politicians who back the use of ethanol. Because of this, ethanol IS a PORK project.

Now I know that you're teasing me. Everyone knows that the Speaker of the House is Nancy Pelosi.

The good people of S.D. fired one of the road blocks"Daschle" and the rest of us should fire as many of the road blocks in 06 as possible
The Democrats are a bunch of thugs that say do it my way or else and the else cost every one of us big bucks we could use to pay for health care or other family needs. It is time to sweep the floors of our government clean and get rid of the socialist/communist or Democrats what ever they call them selves they are all the same.

Alternative fuels, if nothing else, would stop sending billions to fuel islamofascism.

But don't buy into the fiction that it takes more energy to produce a gallon of ethanol than it provides.

The amount of energy necessary to produce a gallon of ethanol is completely irrelevant. Our economy does not balance costs and benefits on the basis of kWHs or Therms. It does so on the basis of Dollars.

If ethanol was economically efficient, it would be in every pump in every town and burg in the World. Since it is not, then the government mandate is a subsidy, and it is paid for, as all government subsidies are, by you and me.

Since it provides no environmental benefit, reduces engine performance and leads to premature failure of engine parts, why, exactly, are we paying for the priviledge of putting this inferior fuel into our vehicles?
