Drugs firms face lawsuits
Scotsman ^ | 20-Apr-2005 | Loiose Gray

A NEW book linking autism and infant vaccines could cost the pharmaceutical industry billions of dollars. In Evidence of Harm, US author David Kirby tells the story of parents who claim mercury in vaccines contributed to an "autism epidemic" in America.

Already, analysts are predicting the book could trigger a number of lawsuits against the pharmaceutical companies that made the vaccines.

As many as 1.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with some form of autism and a conservative estimate puts the cost of lifetime treatment, education and care at $2 million per person.

In the UK, campaigners blamed the vaccine MMR for causing autism after the incidence of the condition increased tenfold among children between 1984 and 1994.

Writing in The Scotsman today, Margaret Cook - a retired consultant haematologist - said the furore over MMR would be "swamped into insignificance" by new fears about mercury in the DTP triple vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis).

She said: "If the link between mercury and autism is proved beyond doubt ... the capacity for litigation, certainly in the US, would possibly be sufficiently seismic to destroy the pharmaceutical industry as we know it."

Mercury has now been removed from DTP, but Ms Cook said there were still toxic metals in the new pentavalent vaccine.

"I would be very careful vaccinating because even these new vaccines include aluminium, which is not a heavy metal but is toxic."

"sufficiently seismic to destroy the pharmaceutical industry as we know it."

Yeah, let's do that- get rid of medicine. Reducing the life expectancy back to what it was pre-immunization and pre-antibiotics solves the Social Security problem at the same time---(sarcasm)

What many are looking for is that the vaccines go through the same testing protocol that drugs go through, especially long term effects (greater than five days)

The rotavirus, old DTP, live polio, hepatitis B and MMR have caused problems.

Rellimpank, you don't have a child with autism, as I do. I pray that you don't end up having one with that condition.

The number of freepers with relatives who have autism is frightening.

I spoke today who created a website about this issue. He had two children involved. One with some CNS damage and another autism.

He is happy to report today that both kids are doing MUCH better with chelation therapy which worked in his case.

I am more posting this to help freepers with affected kids than to debate.

Are there any reliable studies showing a link? Heard anectodal evidence but nothing substantive.

Autism obeys no single set of symptoms; have we all gone mad?

Assuming that a definitive cause for your son's condition could be found, would it reduce your duty or devotion?

J.B. Handley, San Francisco, CA
J.B. Handley is Managing Director of Swander Pace Capital, a San Francisco investment firm, and has a young son with autism. Handley’s son began transdermal DMPS chelation therapy in 2004, shortly after his diagnosis, and now he claims that the boy is beginning to talk and behave like any normal 26-month-old would. Handley, who has spoken to dozens of parents with the same remarkable success stories to share, is as good as convinced. He says that transdermal DMPS is a significantly better way to deliver the agent because it bypasses the gut, which presented major issues for kids with chronically bad guts. "It's better than an IV drip – how do you give that to a kid? – and it is gentle enough to use every other day," he says.

Two main chelating agents:
DMSA: Di-Mercapto-Succinic Acid

IV, or more typically in children, orally.
Most commonly used.
“Safest?”

DMPS: Di-Mercapto-Propane-Sulfonate

Transdermal patch.
Controversial and untested.
Anecdotal evidence shows great potency.
“Miraculous” recoveries reported by parents and doctors.

See Slide 94. People 'swear' by this patch.

The rotavirus, old DTP, live polio, hepatitis B and MMR have caused problems.

However, I too would take the vaccination over these diseases, any of them. Polio, measles, mumps, chicken pox, whooping cough, all gone now though most children mid-century contracted all but polio and whooping cough.

As a child in the early 1950's fifties, our family was very fearful of us contacting polio. In the summer in the Boston area we were prohibited from going to the beach, amusement parks or even having fun under the sprinkler. Until the first Salk vaccine was developed, the fear of contacting the disease stopped many of us from having a carefree childhood. I first saw the results of polio up close when I went to college and there were several young men my age in wheelchairs or crutches in my dorm. Just a year or two later the fear was gone.

Yes, vaccines should be improved but our chances of getting sick from one of the diseases, especially those with long-term health effects, are now mostly nonexistent.

The first three vaccines were pulled. You cant get them. The hep B used to be for healthcare workers only.

It is very dangereous and not needed unless the mother is postive.

--ditto--one of my boyhood acquainences died of polio in 1950---the present generation doesn't apparently know of or appreciate the relief polio vaccine, for example, gave to parents---
