BORKING JOHN BOLTON
NY Post ^ | Apr. 21, 2005 | NY Post Editorial

Posted on 04/20/2005 11:43:10 PM PDT by FairOpinion

Voinovich, who hadn't bothered to attend any of the Foreign Relations Committee's previous confirmation hearings, apparently was rattled by the demagogic harangues by the likes of Sens. Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) — to the point where he declared he suddenly wasn't prepared to vote on Bolton's nomination.

As a result, the committee vote was put off for three weeks — which is precisely what the Democrats have been looking for since the nomination was announced.

From the outset, their tactic has been to postpone and postpone — anything to give them time to keep searching for a smoking gun to destroy the nomination of a principled and competent man.

The fact is that the Democrats' problems with John Bolton have nothing to do with his personality and everything to do with his views.

That, and of the policies of the Bush administration, for which he would be an advocate at the United Nations.

And that's what the Democrats can't abide.

Exactly. And the Republicans better get the rogue Senators like Voinovich to straighten up and fly right, or they'll never get Bush's nominees confirmed for anything, including Judicial nominees.

Do we really *need* an ambassador to the UN? I know Bush intends to reform it, via Bolton putting his hands on his hips (the poor French). But if this keeps up, I hope Bush just says to-hell-with-it and yanks all US support for the UN.

"Her poor performance, treatment of other employees and attempt to take over our contract became issues; and thus I was required to step in and remove her from her position. Mr. Bolton's role with IBTCI was unrelated. to her activities at the time."

Apparently the boss of the lady from MOB didn't have too high an opinion of her.

Maybe Bush should make this point to the Dem Senators: support the Bolton nomination, or we'll pull out of the UN altogether.

Why are Republicans wavering and surrendering the field?

For God's sake who WON the last election; use the power you were mandated.

This bowled me over when he made this public admission that he hadn't bothered to attend any of these important meetings.

Sometimes I can barely stand the stench of it all. Is there a statesman among them? The U.S. Senate turns my stomach.

The question I just can't figure out here is Voinovich's motivations.

I don't see what the man gains with this stunt, and even though the Republicans are known to be lax on discipline, this is begging for the party or conservatives to cause him some pain.

He is Poed cause the USAF threaten to shoot his aircraft down when he violated USAF 1 air space.

Nothing more petty than a politician who has had his nose rubbed in it.

Get out the vote, get out the vote, get out the vote so we can do nothing to further your agenda. My, this will be a thrilling 2006.. Maybe the Democrats will gain a seat or two as everyone sits on their hands just like our leaders are demonstrating to us.

A three week delay for no good reason...

Just get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US--- We don't need an Ambassodor to this den of Socialist thieves and murderers.

I did hear about that one but even for a politician it seems awful petty.

I think Voinovich is dirty. His actions don't pass the smell test.

"I think Voinovich is dirty. His actions don't pass the smell test."

I agree. He deliberately didn't attend the committee hearings and I bet he had a prearranged agreement with the Dems to drop this bomb last minute.

I wonder if it was bribe or blackmail or both.

Just ran across this from Voinovich during the Rice confirmation hearings;

Senator George Voinovich (R-Ohio), who voted to confirm, said “the administration has not been as candid and forthright with us during the last couple of years” and urged “more candor from this administration during the next four years.”

In 15 years I've worked with politicians from both parties, I've only met 1 non corrupt politician. A Republican Senator. Most of what happens is theater, pure and simple. Voinovich engaged in drama.

I smell the stink of corruption. I think it has to do with the Food for Oil scandal and saving Kofi's rear end.
