"Sometimes he gives you something like a nudge and says, 'Don't take yourself so seriously!' Humor is in fact an essential element in the mirth of creation. We can see how, in many matters in our lives, God wants to prod us into taking things a bit more lightly; to see the funny side of it; to get down off our pedestal and not to forget our sense of fun," he said.

I like that! :)

Theology as a study of God and the mysteries of alvation is never static. Revelation ended with the death of the last apostle; the study of that revelaton did not. A trend in theology might be an emphasis upon Eucharistic theology in the universities, or an intense interest in intertestamental literature, or some such thing.

Does that help?

The cardinals who elected Pope Benedict XVI and the priests who worked with him at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith had a common message about the new pope: Do not believe everything reporters have told you.

The cardinals are risking being hit by a bolt of lightning from the ghost of Edward R. Murrow for uttering such blasphemy!! Don't they realize how almighty the Western Media is? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I'm not Catholic, but I think the Pope is an important influence on all Christians, because of his leadership on moral issues. It appears to me that the Cardinals made an excellent choice in Benedict XVI. May God bless him.

I'm not Vathoic either, but I get the feeling that the more these media idiots attack the Pope, the more people will pay attention to him.

You've obviously read my master's thesis. I spent a year writing on the topic of "humor/laughter," and that's basically the conclusion that I came to....

Of course God has a sense of humor! Why else do you think He invented the fart?

Yes there is and must be continued development of theology. As too metaphysics develops, theology must keep up. I used to like reading the heady stuff; I still enjoy it a bit but I pretty much can't "absorb" much. Metaphysics used to be known as the "Queen of the Sciences". Today I mentioned the word to a college senior (also Catholic) and was suprised and slightly saddened by his completely blank return look.

In "Milestones," he wrote about being born in Marktl am Inn, Germany, April 16, 1927 -- Holy Saturday that year -- and being baptized on Easter in the newly blessed waters.

"Personally, I always have been grateful for the fact that in this way my life from the beginning was immersed in the paschal mystery, which could not be anything other than a blessing," he wrote.

And now, he has been elevated to Pope during the Easter Season. Somehow, it all seems to be part of God's Plan.
