COLUMBUS, Ohio - A poll released Friday says that more Ohioans disapproved of the job Gov. Bob Taft is doing than any governor in the poll's 24-year history.
The Ohio Poll, sponsored and conducted by the University of Cincinnati, found that 55 percent of those surveyed disapproved of the way Taft, a Cincinnati Republican, was handling his job. Thirty-four percent approved of Taft's job performance and 11 percent neither approved or disapproved. Taft's previous disapproval rating in the poll was 43 percent in February 2004.
The telephone poll was taken March 21-April 10 among 846 adults statewide. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
The previous highest disapproval rating was Taft's 50 percent rating in April 2003. Democratic Gov. Richard Celeste holds the all-time low for approval - 32 percent in April 1983. However, 23 percent neither approved or disapproved so Celeste's disapproval rating was 45 percent.
The Ohio Poll also found that 49 percent of adults statewide approved of the way President Bush is handling his job. Fifty percent disapproved and 1 percent neither approved or disapproved.
34% of Ohioans are real marroons.
Maybe they're Democrats....
That's the 34% who will vote for either Coleman or Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! Springer.
Call me a sentimental old fool, but I would like to see old Dick retain the title. Even though I loathe Robert A Taft.
Well he is in bed with the Unions....
Time to run for President, I guess. No other reason to be a RINO.
Robert A. Taft is a pussywhipped politician whose only claim to fame is the name be bares -- and disgraces.
"34% of Ohioans are real marroons."
I think the percentage is higher than that.
After all 11% can't figure out if they approve or disapprove of Taft.
The poll also doesn't say what the reasons were for the 55% that disagreed with Taft. Some may just disagree with him because they think Taft is a Republican.
Taft - A Voinovich without the spine.
This is one poll that I actually believe! The Repubs in Ohio are fed up with the RINO Coalition- Taft, Voinovich, and the back-bencher DeWine.
Taft appears to be a good example of the degeneration that sometimes occurs in famous families.
Does Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell have a good chance at the GOP nomination, and if so, what about the general election? He is a true conservative, right?
I have no idea.
I do look frward to Blackwell beginning the process of cleaning up the GOP in Ohio.
I am supporting Blackwell as well, but living in NE Ohio, I am concerned that he is being demonized as a reactionary by the mainstream media, and many Ohioans are not getting a true picture of him. Hopefully Blackwell is getting fairer treatment in Columbus and Cincinnati, as well as the rural parts of the state. Taft's spineless leadership has been a great disappointment.
Under Voinovich/Taft...Davidson/Householder state spending has gone up over 110%, I think it is closer to 120%.
Taxes have increased, and the tax base was increased.
Now Voinovich has the balls to state that he is against further tax cuts until he sees committed spending cuts. I saw and heard the words come out of his mouth.
In November's election we lost Districts 62 and 63 to Democrats, and I feel this is only the tip of the iceberg. Ron Young had previously won 63 by comfortable margins, and I thought Kresnye was a shoo-in against Democrat running as a fake Republican Cassell. BJ lost that election by about 370 votes.
In Ohio 62 Chris Galloway lost to Lorraine Fende, but that was an uphill battle for Chris because of Fende's name recognition in Wickliffe/Willowick/Willoughby area. Concord was not big enough to pull him through. ALSO, Ohio 62 was previously represented by quisling Jamie Callender, who cast the deciding vote in favor of the tax increase budget of two years ago. Then he had the nerve to put himself up against real conservative Tim Grendell for State Senate. Grendell and his wife Diane are the only good things that NE Ohio have going right now in Columbus and the courts.
I am supporting Ken Blackwell as well, but have heard from senior members of the Lake County Republican Party that he:
1- Has trouble raising money, and has a reputation as such.
2- Is not regarded highly in the state government concerning his administrative abilities. The organizations under his control are kind of loosey-goosey.
I worked for his sales tax repeal movement and was disappointed when we just fell short.
Please remember the Support the Troops rally tomorrow at Public Square in Cleveland 12-1. I have heard that there will be a snowman building competition, and impromptu snowball fight. (I guess it can no longer be condiered impromptu, can it?).
