LEWISBURG -- Using scuba divers in the Susquehanna River, search teams on the banks and a dog trained to find corpses, Bellefonte police launched a massive search for Ray Gricar on Friday but came up empty-handed.

Searchers found a brown loafer and a computer part in their daylong search of the Susquehanna, but neither these nor any other items discovered were deemed relevant to the disappearance of the Centre County district attorney.

Bellefonte Police Chief Duane Dixon said as the search began Friday that he had wanted to do it before the rain forecasted for the weekend moved in.

Hours later, as the search wound down, he said he has no plans to bring the divers back or repeat the comprehensive search. Dixon also said he has no plans to ask for more helicopter searches.

"Unless some new lead comes in, I don't see us doing that right away," he said.

That it does.

With each passing day, life on this earth strikes me as increasingly bizarre...
