Another Global warming story debunked...

Some excerpts of another Globalony warming scare story debunked…

The Tip of the Iceberg By Patrick Michaels04/25/2005 TCS Last week on Earth Day, AP newswire led with a real scare story: "Study Shows Antarctic Glaciers Shrinking." In doing so, the press, yet again, predictably distorted a global warming story.

By "Antarctica" they actually meant the Antarctic Peninsula, which comprises about 2% of the continent. It's warming there and has been for decades. But every scientist (or for that matter, everyone who has read Michael Crichton's "State of Fear") knows that the temperature averaged over the entire continent has been declining for decades.

The fact that a report that glaciers are melting over one extremely small portion of Antarctica that is showing warming, while the rest of the continent is cooling, grabs not only newspaper headlines but finds its way without a regional perspective into a prestigious publication like Science is troubling. If objectivity, rather than scariness were the purpose, Cook et al. would certainly have referenced Doran's work for background. Or perhaps the editors at Science could have asked for it?

The general cooling of Antarctica is highly scientifically significant because climate models run under increasing levels of greenhouse gases predict that the Antarctic continent as a whole, not just the Peninsula, should be rapidly warming. This is clearly a model failure and no amount of going on and on about the impact of warming in the Peninsula, is going to change that fact.

Once again the Main Stream Media Mavens, with all their high scientific degrees and training, misread a story to scare people who imagine in their feverish little brains that the world is burning up with global warming. Globaloney!!

(And I apologize in advance if someone else already put this story up, but I couldn’t find it on FR)

Maybe Al Gore and Hillary Clinton can throw an Ice cube fund raiser to stop the melting of glaciers

Junk science. Always has been, always will be. Thank God our President hasn't fallen for it.

There was a frost here in middle Tennessee this morning. There has not been a frost this late since 1910. It MUST be global warming that is causing the mild summers and cold winters in Tennessee.

Clearly. Ya see, with global warming, you're actually gonna see COLDER winters and MILDER summers for a couple of decades. That's how ya know for sure.

In some areas, though, you'll see WARMER winters and HOTTER summers. Another definite clue.

It's all crystal clear, see?

I always love the one where Antartica temps are gong to rise 10 degrees in the next decade. So if the average temp is -40 degress and it goes to -30 degress does anyone care? Ice will stay ice.

I have seen this same type of reporting about Greenland. They find a small area of the island that has warmed but leave out that the average temp of the whole island is dropping. Then again according to these people drops in temperature are also a sign of Global Warming.

Cleveland - 4/24/05:

16 -20" of "Global Warming" this past weekend. we have surpassed the following previous records for

-Total yearly snowfall (now at 117" and climbing)
-Total snowfall for an April
-Total snowfall for a March

Send those clueless SOBs here to NE Ohio. We'll show them some "science".

What's up with North Florida? Nighttime temps have been in the 40s and 50s for all of April. This is wonderful from my point of view, but it's usually summer by now.

Frost nothing. In Detroit it was 80+ last week. This weekend we had 24 solid hours of snow. 8-12" accumulation in some areas. Gotta be global warming.

BTW, I'll be finsishing State of Fear tonight. What a great book. I especially liked the section about the ignoramus effort by the enviros to destroy Yellowstone Park.

Is the area that is warming near the huge underwater volcano they discovered?

It sounds as if it is.

What's wrong with this? All the politicians that support the global warming fiction change positions on the issues continuously!

Bring me up to date, Jaysun. The last I heard, the administration had decided that global warming IS a problem that needs its attention. Did they change their minds again?

I was referring to his rejection of the "Kyoto Treaty". As far as I know their stance hasn't changed. The President is pushing his "Clear Skies Initiative" which utilizes a market based system to reduce air pollution from power plants without hiking the price of electricity. The genius of the initiative, in my opinion, is that it takes the ball out of their court. It's effective, it doesn't hurt business (much to their chagrin), it doesn't increase the cost of energy, and it'll be hard for them to argue for a system that's more "anti capitalism" once it's in place.

That's right, These models are built on assumptions of how they expect (or want) the system to work. Any model is worthless until it can be validated by showing its abilty to predict outcomes based on known inputs that are verified by testing/observing the system being modelled. All the evidence shows that these weather models are bad but the GW idiots just ignore reality.
