It seems clear (from my own experience) that blacks from the Islands do much much better in school and jobs than African Americans. Sowell's explanation is the best reason I've ever heard.
I remember one theory had the excellence of Jamaicans secondary to the fact that the most intelligent ones figured that they would jump ship in Jamaica before getting to the States!
