American Border Secrets

What steps should Western border agencies take to defend their homelands from harm by Islamists?

In the case of non-citizens, the answer is simple: Don't let Islamists in. Exclude not just potential terrorists but also anyone who supports the totalitarian goals of radical Islam. Just as civilized countries did not welcome fascists in the early 1940s (or communists a decade later), they need not welcome Islamists today.

But what about one's own citizens who cross the border? They could be leaving to fight for the Taliban or returning from a course on terrorism techniques. Or perhaps they studied with enemies of the West who incited them to sabotage or sedition. Clearly, the authorities should take steps to find out more about their activities, especially given the dangerous jihadi culture already in place in many Western countries, including Canada.

This question arose in late December 2004, after a three-day Islamist conference, "Reviving the Islamic Spirit," took place in Toronto. The event, boasting a host of high-profile Islamist speakers such as Bilal Philips, Zaid Shakir, Siraj Wahhaj, and Hamza Yusuf, alarmed the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), America's new border agency..

The primary duty of a free nation is to stay free and defend her people from those who would see this nation destroyed and American freedom crushed under the bootheel of a theocratic rule. Weakening the Constitution is not at issue, I believe. Oh, certainly we have had constitutional crisis, where rights were temporarily curtailed during times of war, Lincoln certainly muffled dissent among the press during the outset of the Civil War, even imprisoned some journalists; while FDR suppressed the Constitutional rights of certain Americans during WWII by forcng them into internment camps, but America has endured and so has our most precious document.

I believe it will survive the current crisis as well, though if we are speaking of the Patriot Act, I just don't see it as a threat to the Constitution.

And it depends on what you mean by singling out citizens who have committed no crime. Do I believe in deporting or putting them in internment camps? No, not at all. Do I believe in surveilance of certain so-called charities, houses of religion, and Islamic web sites? Yes, in accordance with the Patriot Act. And what has brought me to this belief? The actions of the parties in question, no more, no less. When soldiers frag their own officers because they believe their religion is a higher order than loyalty to their country, we have a problem. That is, admittedly, one example, but there are many more.

It is a fine line to walk, and we must step carefully, lest we lose what we are fighting so hard to preserve.

No Profiling no fingerprinting allowed at airports or borders, hey Gondring?

CAIR Defends Man Testing Security Procedures

On April 12, 2004, the Star-Telegram reported the conviction of a man who was testing the security system at Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport. According to the paper, Fazal Karim, a Pakistani national in the United States Illegally, attempted to smuggle 32 double-edged razor blades tucked in a coiled belt carried inside a cardboard box in carry-on luggage. (Karim is a Canadian citizen who was an illegal alien at the time of his arrest).

Just what did Karim do that attracted the attention of screeners?

1. He lied about his immigration status. (Illegal alien)

2. He placed his carry-on luggage on the conveyor belt; then walked away from it to a non-adjacent passenger screening device.

3. Told screeners the blades:

a. For shaving the bottom of his full beard. (Note: He had blades, no handles).

b. Said the blades were for a friend in Houston. (Note: ACAIR can find no record of there being a razor blade shortage in Texas)

c. Stated he didn’t know the blades were in the luggage.

And the response of the Council on American-Islamic Relations?

According to the Star-Telegram,

“A spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations said in an earlier interview that Karim’s prosecution fit a pattern of singling out travelers from predominantly Muslim nations after the 9-11 terrorist attacks.”

Once again, CAIR attempts to turn this into another example of profiling Muslims, despite there being absolutely no evidence that the screeners acted against Karim because of his religious beliefs.

Karim attempted to carry 32 double-edged razor blades onto an aircraft. His explanations were disingenuous and he was acting suspicious. CAIR disparages law enforcement again, when it implies that good security work is simply a case of profiling.

Karim’s defense attorney, Marlo Cadeddu had this to say:

“I don’t believe the government would have taken the position that it took if Mr. Karim were not a Muslim.”

Cadeddu can make all the unreasonable statements he cares too, but the simple fact remains that he has not told anyone how the screeners knew that Karim is a Muslim.

In any case, Karim has five years to do in the prison system and we won’t have to worry about him, or his razor blades, any time soon. He is to be deported following completion of his sentence.

The Words Of
Samuel Adams:

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.
We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an ever lasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men."

Seems I've had to do a lot of reading for people lately. >sigh<

I know you're an Aussie, so I'll explain... Both the United States and Canada are on North America, and the usage "American" applies to both in some cases, but when talking about citizenship, "American" generally applies to the United States only.

I LOVE the Samuel Adams quote! If a few more of the anti-Constitution types would learn to read, perhaps they wouldn't be so quick to attack our hard-fought rights! I'm gonna drink a bottle of Sam Adams tonight in support of his quote! (Thanks for that pic upthread, RS!)

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks."

Just was thinking...that should have "Foreign (e.g., Fred Nerks) or Domestic (e.g., AAC)" after "attacks". :-)

I suppose nobody is above suspicion and we should all be searched at the border, eh?

As opposed to supporting concentration camps?

I'm proud to stand firmly against you on that...I'm against them and am not ashamed of that.

No, you didn't remind me of anyone who was opposed to concentration camps Gondring, you reminded me of someone who had totally lost their reason.

Saying you are 'proud to stand firmly against me on that', in which statement the inference is I support concentration camps, proves to me how irrational and devious you are.

Ari, Fred and Bennett: thanks for the comments, and the enjoyment I've had watching the three of you battling so well.
You have more patience than I do right now.
Some responses you've received are so off the wall that they are almost impossible to respond to rationally or irrationally.

This is for the three of you:

And we're still pulling and praying for you Texas Cowboy!

"They are to singled out for special tratment BECAUSE of their religion ? .... This from a Jewish publication ?????" Therein lies the conundrum. We are confronting an ideology in the form of a culture and religion that openly advocates destruction, murder and the overthrow of the United States. And we're supposed to give members of that religion and culture the benefit of the doubt, kevubg the terrorists among them are free to perpetrate their mayhem. It's a lose-lose situation.

you obviously do not have even a basic knowledge of islam.

their goal IS for all to be islamic or dead.

Problem is that when terrorists do their diry work, frequently they can't be arrested, charged and convicted through our judicial process because they are dead. I don't have a solution, but when confronted with an implacable enemy engaged in war against us, I don't think the judicial process is much help. Preemption, frowned upon according to our rights as citizens, seems more and more to be a reasonable response to terrorism.

...or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.

Those who would weaken our Constitution to allow a takeover by militant Muslims or Communists or anyone else. But even if some FReepers of this thread are helping those groups, I wouldn't place them in that category, I like to believe you are all well-meaning but misguided.

Truly false and designing men would be those who intentionally want to harm the United States...such as many leftists...as well as those who don't mind if the US is harmed, such as many MSM personnel (yes, also leftists). Many of them are working to encourage more intrusive governmental presence, as well as division among good people of the country. They assist groups like CAIR, even if their goals are not aligned entirely.

Nope - all I know is what I have read and experienced myself, not what I picked up from some hate-mongers who would toss OUR liberties out the window for a false sense of security.
