The latest radio ratings are in, and they show continued bad news for Air America, the liberal talk-radio network featuring Al Franken, Randi Rhodes, Janeane Garofolo, and others.
While it is difficult to pinpoint Air America's ratings nationally it is on the air in about 50 stations across the country, and has been on some of them for just the last few months it is possible to measure the network's performance in the nation's number-one market, New York City.
The new Arbitron ratings for Winter 2005, which covers January, February, and March, show that WLIB, the station which carries Air America in New York, won a 1.2-percent share of all listeners 12 years and older. That is down one tenth of one point from the station's 1.3 percent share in Winter 2004, the last period when it aired its old format of Caribbean music and talk.
Air America debuted on March 31, 2004. In the network's first quarter on the air, Spring of 2004, which covered April, May, and June, Air America won a 1.3-percent share of the market audience. That number rose slightly to 1.4 percent in the Summer 2004 July/August/September period, and fell back to 1.2 percent in the Fall 2004 October/November/December period, where it remains today.
Those numbers are, again, for all listeners 12 years and older. Air America executives, however, often point to the network's performance among listeners 25 to 54 years of age, the preferred demographic target for radio advertisers. But in that area, too, Air America is struggling.

Daylight come and I want to go home...
Rastafarian talk trumps "The Majority Report".
Wow! 50 stations!
Once again proving all the media hype in the world won't help you if you suck (see John Kerry).
This is the most entertaining article I've read in days. Does that make me a mean person? Oh, well...
Coming in behind steel drums and Caribbean talk - that's gotta hurt.
Wouldn't surprise me if this All-Hate All-The-Time network is losing voters for the democrats.
A cave would get better ratings and serve the same purpose.
"Between the hours of 10 A.M. and 3 P.M., the period that includes Al Franken's program, Air America drew a 1.4-percent share of the New York audience aged 25 to 54 in Winter 2005. That number is the latest in a nearly year-long decline. In Spring of 2004, Air America's first quarter on the air, it drew a 2.2-percent share of the audience. That rose to 2.3 percent in the Summer of 2004, then fell to 1.6 percent in the Fall of 2004, and is now 1.4 percent Air America's lowest-ever quarterly rating in that time and demographic slot."
Now that the 25-54 argument is put to rest.
An All-Jingle-Cats-All-The-Time network would get better ratings and actually be less annoying than listening to Frankenstein and Igor-rafalo whine all the time.
Actually, it DOES help them. Where would they be without it ??? Third place behind the "Nasal Phlegm show", and "High School Bowling Roundup with Billy Spooge".
This has been a great experience, watching another attempt at LIBERAL RADIO go down the tubes. I was going to say you would think liberals would have gotten smart about their agenda by now but, no, that is giving them too much credit.
No advertiser in their right mind, would support AA. Just look at the demographics of the listener base. What does AA have to offer in the way of an audience, except a bunch of Democrat Kool-Aid drinkers that need to be fed the perpetual anti-truths of the left?? The advertising sales people at AA probably got hungry real fast. That is until George Soros' money ran out ---- :-)
Dead Air.
George Soros was 'banking' on a Kerry administration putting the 'fairness doctrine' back in which would have mainstreamed AA into all stations doing right-talk radio "for balance".
I played the Jingle Cats till my boss threatened me with bodily harm and firing.
Rush Limbaugh isn't number one because he is conservative. He is number one because he has broadcast talent. Not everybody can get on the radio and captivate an audience. Al Franken may have been a comedic talent but that doesn't necessarily translate to radio. Air America never has been a business prospect it has been a liberal funded propoganda tool. Rush went on nationally in 1988 and quickly gained affiliates because he drew in listeners whose opinion was not reflected in the media marketplace. Liberal media gets the Democrat point of view out so Err America is facing far more competition for time and attention.
back in the 1980's at an major "hifi" dealer in West Los Angeles, we accomodated a "laydown" customer who worked for a firm called Air America. Their address was very close to the old Hughes airfield on Jefferson Blvd. and later we learned it was no secret that Air America was the flying wing of the CIA.
Heh, I wonder if these folks know the name has been taken...I don't imagine the CIA has stopped flying - lol
You know that in a few years they left will try again and the MSM media will give them all the free promotion in the world under the guise of a "news story".
Oh no, now I'm not going to get that song outta my head!!
Who the heck would listen to a bunch of whiny, hate everything and everyone liberals on a radio show? Someone would have to have a very low self esteem or maybe a death wish or something! Sheesh!
