Gov. Blagojevich distanced himself Wednesday from a boyhood pal accused of invoking his own position in state government and friendship with the governor to try to get out of a drunken-driving arrest earlier this month in McHenry County.
"I haven't seen him -- maybe once -- since I've been governor," Blagojevich said about Daniel E. Stefanski, whom the governor hired for a six-figure job with the Illinois Department of Transportation a few months after taking office. It's "not as if I spend time with him."
In Washington on other business, Blagojevich also said he's instructed his transportation secretary, Tim Martin, to "treat Danny Stefanski as you would treat any other employee, . . . nothing more, nothing less."
Stefanski, a former Teamsters official who raised money and campaigned for the governor's election, was arrested April 15 after his erratic driving forced a half dozen vehicles -- including a squad car -- off the road in the McHenry-Johnsburg area, police said.

And probably still is, judging by the way he cranks the PR machine up constantly. I don't know if the state has enough enough TV cameras for both Blago AND the Most Reverend Jackson.
