I used to work at a place that had lots of squirrels outside. We had bags of mixed nuts in the candy machines.
I noticed that if you started with peanuts, they would eat whatever you gave them. But if you started with cashews or almonds, they would refuse the peanuts later.

Looks like he is in attack mode.
We had one come down the chimney one Thanksgiving. The fireplace didn't work, so there wasn't a screen in front, and this fella just runs out into the living room. Whee doggies! That'll put some excitement in your holiday meal.
*shrug* He let me get within a couple meters of him.
Oh yeah! The SAME thing happened to me! I fed them almonds and they could go crazy over those, then when I would try peanuts they would sniff them and ignore it, and start harrassing me for the almonds. "We don`t want the dirt nuts! We want the premium nuts!" The after a few days when they figured I wasn`t going to spend $5 bucks for a pound of almonds anymore then they accepted the peanuts. Now I don`t feed them anything, I just want them to leave me the hell alone. Just about every morning at 5am they wake me up, they are little bastards and I know I ain`t the only who feeds them. I really think they got this whole thing planned out.. They make their rounds to all the people who feed them and if you stop on the "payments" the squirrel mafia starts harrassing you, waking you up, damaging your windows and invading your place.
